Let’s all have just a little more compassion…….

I know there are a lot of people out there who believe that when people cause there own struggles in life the rest of society shouldn’t have to pay for it. The classic examples include the welfare mom or people who choose to live in natural disaster prone areas. I admit, even I allow myself to think in such simplified terms from time to time. However, I’m sure if we all think hard we can come up with a time (or many times……) when we were completely in the wrong and deserved whatever consequences came along with or mistakes. However, despite that someone still helped us through our situation. I’m not saying people shouldn’t be critical about helping others. I’m just saying everyone makes mistakes and I think people need to remember that.

So true. Its like how we all

So true. Its like how we all get soooo pissed off when someone cuts us off while we're driving, conveniently forgetting all the stupid driving mistakes we've made ourselves.

Fairness is a funny thing. Everyone's afraid that someone might get away with something they don't deserve, which would be unfair, so they try to take away any opportunities for abuse, ultimately making things more unfair for a lot more people. The welfare mom is a great example. Welfare (and other entitlement programs) is a great idea, in principal. It goes a long way toward counteracting the natural unfairness of life, but you're always going to have a few greedy people who figure out ways to take advantage of the system. Unfortunately we tend to concentrate on the bad—those few cheaters—and miss the good.

You are Right

This country has the least "welfare rights" in the world. Look at this healthcare bill----- every month my family is $1 from total bankruptcy because we can not get insurance for my sick daughter. No one seems to care. I guess we'll just jerk off the system to save my duaghter and worry who will pay for it later. It is a disgrace. The Repubicans keep claiming the "market will take care of the problem" Show me the program/solution for my daughter- the system encourages cheating and dishonesty.  That's no the America I grew up in.

WAKE UP AMERICA! tHOSE OF YOU NOT AFFECTED NOW ARE NEXT!

every month my family is $1

every month my family is $1 from total bankruptcy because we can not get insurance for my sick daughter.

First of all my prayers are with your daughter and I hope she makes a full recovery.

The Repubicans keep claiming the "market will take care of the problem"

No that is a false statement the republicans know there is a problem. Here is what the republicans have proposed.

■Empowering Patients First Act (Republican Study Committee Health Care Reform Bill, introduced July 30, 2009)
■Improving Health Care for All Americans Act (Shadegg Health Care Reform Bill, introduced July 14, 2009)
■Medical Rights & Reform Act (Kirk-Dent Health Care Reform Bill, introduced June 16, 2009)
■Help Efficient, Accessible, Low-cost, Timely Healthcare (HEALTH) Act (Gingrey medical liability reform bill, introduced June 6, 2009)
■Small Business Health Fairness Act of 2009 (Johnson small business health plans bill, introduced May 21, 2009)
■Promoting Health and Preventing Chronic Disease through Prevention and Wellness Programs for Employees, Communities, and Individuals Act of 2009 (Castle Wellness & Prevention Bill, introduced July 31, 2009)
■Improved Employee Access to Health Insurance Act of 2009 (Deal auto-enrollment bill, introduced October 15, 2009)
■Health Insurance Access for Young Workers and College Students Act of 2009 (Blunt bill to improve health insurance coverage of dependents, introduced October 21, 2009)

Everyone of those was shot down by democrats. Not to mention the democrats kicked the republicans out of the negations when promised by Obama, Nancy and Harry that they would be involved. They shut the doors and said fuck your ideas.

This health care bill that has been proposed will bankrupt everyone in this country period. It is shit. Not even good shit it is bad shit.

For more on this debate on both sides and what they propose go here.

Speaking of welfare rights, I

Speaking of welfare rights, I still have not found anyplace in the constitution that says you have the right to welfare.

Once again they lie

It's al the republicans know how to do, well that and dragging our country into the economical abyss with their borrow and spend practices that cost so much interest we can never repay it.

Every single one of those failed bills failed because they were dishonest. Nothing about any of them would have done more good than bad, not unless you're already so wealthy that you can self-insure.

The rich get richer is the republcan motto despite how many bodies of good decent innocent Americans they have to victimize to try and satiate their insatiable greed.

If they had any scruples at all they'd admit their agenda but they can't even do that. That's why they're so not only dangerous but evil. I could dare any of them to look JBG and daughter in the eye and claim to be on their side excet they are actually able to do that. They have no conscience whatsoever. Just start wars and kill as many as possible so long and their leader in chief Dick gets his Halliburtton profits stuffing his pockets. Just pretend to give a rat's ass about health care and they can get away with further enriching the insurance industry, the richest of all businesses in the world that has the unconscionable audacity to routinely claim they are in dire straits and would go bankrupt if actual reform were to take place. They truly are worse than dumb or just greedy, They are truly evil.

It's al the republicans know

It's al the republicans know how to do, well that and dragging our country into the economical abyss with their borrow and spend practices that cost so much interest we can never repay it.

Only people like you would believe that. Because Obama has dragged this country into ruin. I am telling because of his policies this country is in deep shit. Who up debt 4 times the amount? Obama did. So your argument is filled with so many falsehoods.

Every single one of those failed bills failed because they were dishonest. Nothing about any of them would have done more good than bad, not unless you're already so wealthy that you can self-insure.

No they failed because the liberals want a public option that will drive this country further in dept. The kickbacks and bribes Obama had with Ben Nelson and others was dishonest. The whole democrat bill has dishonest and you have been dishonest in your posts.

The rich get richer is the republcan motto despite how many bodies of good decent innocent Americans they have to victimize to try and satiate their insatiable greed.

This whole statement is just shit. This is such a lie that no sane person would believe it.

If they had any scruples at all they'd admit their agenda but they can't even do that. That's why they're so not only dangerous but evil.

This is why you will never have an honest conversation with anyone about politics. Your thoughts are poisoned.

Just start wars and kill as many as possible so long and their leader in chief Dick gets his Halliburtton profits stuffing his pockets.

Just another baseless lie with falsehoods. Cheney stepped down and it has been proven he did not get any money. Was he convicted of stuffing his pockets? Did they take him to court? NO. This is why the democrats are going to get there ass kicked. Because of garbage like this spewed. If Cheney did that then he broke major laws and he did not. What about Acorn TGIX and the money they have recieved. Or now about the TARP money being used by democrats for campaigning?

Just pretend to give a rat's ass about health care and they can get away with further enriching the insurance industry, the richest of all businesses in the world that has the unconscionable audacity to routinely claim they are in dire straits and would go bankrupt if actual reform were to take place. They truly are worse than dumb or just greedy, They are truly evil.

Again why you cannot have honest conversation. I will say this if Republicans are as evil as you say they are then they should be lined up and shot don't you agree TGIX?

Just a thought.

I'm a firm believer in the idea that sometimes you have to experience things first hand in order to truly understand the point of view. When I talk to people who are against "social programs" I often wonder just how hard life was or has been for them……

just an answer to the thought

Personally, I am all FOR social programs, but only for those truly in need and unable to work to earn a livinig! You say there aren't enough jobs? Fine, this is the ONE thing the government couuld do well, they could create a department that would hire those 'un-wanting' to find a job, and put them to work, cleaning roadways, parking structures, abandonded fields and homes. Yep, put those people to work to earn their own way. Pay them like  agovernment employee (which also means MANDATORY DRUG TESTING like a government employee). For that matter, ANYONE getting a government check should be proven clean BEFORE getting a check, and a random check for as long as they are GETTING said check.

Now, before someone says I am being too hard, I am not. I am on disability. I would not care a whit if I was required to take a urine test to continue getting my money. IF I could work, I would (in fact, I even thought I could work last year, I couldn't, my MS was a bit more powerful than I thought). I cannot but I certainly try (and will try again before this year ends, I think. I HATE being stuck at home!)

Oh yes, I know how hard life can be, I also know how hard people make it for themselves and how 'easy' our government could make it for those that want to work.  IF 'they' would quit pandering to the lowest denominator and MAKE people work! Of course, the Constitution really only guarantees the right to PURSUE Happiness, NOT the right to BE happy! BIG difference, I think!

I agree with Walter those

I agree with Walter those that are on disablity should get help. What bothers me is this big government agenda that now a minority of people want. What also bothers me is people like TGIX who is not willing to listen to any idea except big government. Who just blames one party for the econemy when cleary it is both parties that have failed us.

Here is MY 'real' problem with our country...

We are the only country where we have homeless without shelter, children going to bed without eating, elderly going without needed meds, and mentally ill without treatment - yet we have a benefit for the people of Haiti on 12 TV stations.  Someone tell me why this is, WHICH party is to blame for this ONGOING FOR DECADES problem?

Why can't they do a telethon

Why can't they do a telethon for those people?I have helped homeless people before until they got on there feet. Granted they were friends however they lost there jobs house and we took them in until they got on there feet and got an apartment. We fed them and took them to job interviews even let them use our car until they finally could afford granted it was a junker but they are doing good now. They didn't depend on the government they said they were better off looking for jobs themselves. This was many years ago.

That does not happen anymore.

I'll tell you why that is Walter

- because the devastation from the earthquake that struck Haiti has been cited as being the single worst catastrophe in history to hit anywhere in the entire western hemisphere. And we are most Definitely NOT the only country with those social problems that still finds it in our hearts to help others in dire need. If you want a definition of those who are in dire need - those who are buried alive fit that description.

I know it's hard for one to "wrap their head around that" but don't turn away from the TV and radio and newspaper coverage of it for even an hour and you can not call yourself a human without realizing the need to help there. We have the problems you mentioned but nothing even remotey resembling 200,000 dead and counting, hundreds of thousands with no roof over their heads, only two meals have been delivered to them since the quake which was how many days ago?? There is not fuel enough nor sanitary conditions to even triage by amputating limb after limb after limb after limb that Here would easily be saved. And once they're out of the O.R. these people can not properly heal in makeshift tents where the youngest are starting in large numbers to get severe diarreah which spreads. The people there have been abused by the French and by their own <sic> leaders without a single year of peace and chance to better their lives. They have not the resources to rebuild. Any yet they are human. They are our brothers and sisters in this global village we live in. And what it takes to help out there is a pittance by comparison. You're probably not being taxed more than a handful of dollars for help going to Haiti.

Some here say they can't work but there are jobs that anyone can do, even if it's just cleaning. I agree. So the MS is that bad Walter? You know, I was back working only a few days after getting my trache tube removed (the neck healed Fast) and my broken ribs still hurt, the scar over a foot long with 22 large staple or stitch marks on it still itched and the gut still hurt where they cut some bleeding foot or two out and patched the rest back to itself, my fake eye "shell" wasn't made yet to cover the mess where the eye used to be, and I had spent three weeks 100% in bed less two or three times walking down the corridor and back or around the ward once - spent two of the last four months nearly 100% in bed except for walking the dog once or twice a day towards the end of that time. Stuff atrophies in that time... nonetheless, I went back to work with zero work restrictions although many were available to me for the asking (no lifting for instance). The docs cleared me because I fought, despite the pain, and did what none of them had expected. I was getting around well and after 8 hours of surgery to repair a jaw bone snapped in two, upper and lower pallet in the mouth shattered, cheak bone - shattered and the orbit (eye socket) shattered. All of the docs and other medical care people and my coworkers and family were astonished beyond belief that I was able to do so well and so quickly. It wasn't always easy but sure beat laying in that hospital bed, that's all I was thinking and carried on doing all that I could short of being stupid and taking unecessary risks. I was that determined. I've also never had MS and do know it can be extremely painful. I sat in on a presentation that I photographed at the foundation for MS research (don't recall the exact name but it was down the road in Cheverly, MD) and learned how difficult that can be.

At least I had a light the end of the tunnel where but for some scars and monocular vision vs. stereo and some ongoing dental work (that's outrageously expensive) other than those things I'm out of the woods. Oh, I read online where people with face disfiguring injuries run a 400% greater chance of committing suicide and that isn't even on my radar but people are always asking daily "how are feeling today?". I privately wish they'd stop. I probably feel better than they do on my worst days than they do on their best days since I know what it's like to go through hell and back, to essentially die on the operating table and have to live with a pacemaker and one eye for the rest of my life. It makes me want to ask them back "Are you thankful for what you have today, not taking it for granted I hope? But I believe they get the message without me having to say it. The youngest ones at work seem to especially look up to me as some kind of a walking wonder. I'm just doing what I think anyone would do, or should do. I guess there are many who would give up. The statistics show that much. Many wouldn't work, many might kill themselves, but it's good to be alive and productive so I choose to do these things. Keep the faith and research all you can. I know I did and it helped in ways that are immeasurable. Helping others is another way to help one's self. I was contacted by the hospitals shock trauma wellness team inviting me to be a mentor for those who are going through similar situations. It'd cost some gas and they may or may not comp for parking (which in Baltimore is not cheap, not in that area anyway) and it'd take time from my tennis and other things I love and enjoy doing again, but it's something I'm seriously considering. I just don't think I could handle that just yet in case a patient I was helping were to die. But then again, if I do this, the sooner I do it will demonstrate how someone is able to recover so well so fast and that should be extra encouraging to patients.

We can all do something. If you're able bodied then you may be able to things others can not. If you've been through serious injury or illness there's still much you can do. And if you're going through it now, you can still do something. In the hospital room with nothing but my Powerbook and WiFi they had (Thank Goodness for That!) I was able to help myself with research. It helped a Lot. Once out, I was able to continue researching and helped myself even more, each time I logged on I never stopped looking until I found useful information and I'd research for hours a day. Now it might be time to help others. We can all do something. It is a wonderful feeling to know I've been able to provide rescue help, or medical care, or water or food or shelter to those who are so helpless by no fault of their own in Haiti. I only wish I were well enough and trained to go and help in person. If you don't feel the same, I'd keep that to yourself. I couldn't live with myself if I felt that way and said so within earshot of a person who was there, American's were there buried in that rubble too you know. Think about it. These people deserved their plight no more than you deserve yours - you accept help. I didn't have a choice whether to give my taxes to help you. Is that really how you want it to be? And do you have any idea what great things happen from good will to perfect strangers not merely those you know? Pay It Forward was such a great movie, I recommend it to Everyone if you haven't already seen it. The "butterfly effect" can be most positive. You never know exactly why something bad happens and you ask "why me?" by how often do you ask the same question when great things happen? We're spoiled rotten in this country. Travel to a place where about the only "employment" is sustinance living. They grow, hunt or fish for food or they don't eat. I've seen it first hand. Whatever you may see a sparse amount of, the very worst there is in the U.S., it's paradise compared to what hundreds of thousands have right now in Haiti. The suffering is on a scale you can not imagine. Reporters are diving in to help and they never do that. It can interfere with their objectivity and of course get themselves injured or killed. But they're even doing that in Haiti it's so incredibly bad.

I've heard enough excuses to make me sick. It reminds me of the school kid who says they can't do their homework. "Why not?" their parents and teachers ask? Oh, "I don't have a pencil". They're shown that it is right there in their Hand! "I can't find any paper" and they're given paper. "Um, I can't find the assignment". "I didn't have time" but had time to sit and do nothing for hours, watch TV, play video games and doodle on their non-existent paper with their non-existent pencil... Sorry, I'm not buying it. I say buck up. For one thing, it's healthier (it is said givers receive back 3 times over that which they provide) and it's the right thing to do.

Wow what a diatribe. I will

Wow what a diatribe. I will sum it up in TGIXs mind in a few words. It is Bush's fault. Thats is it that is all you have to know. Didn't the

2004 Tsunami kill 200,000 people also?

Ahh here it is.

Tsunami - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ahh TGIX being the typical liberal. When someone says something he does not like he attacks and insults them. I wanted to be nasty to him but I realize that TGIX brings out the ugliness in me and I do not like it. So I will let TGIX be the nasty one for now on. So TGIX where is the compassion for people that democrats say they so love? The last time on your return I was ugly and I apologized for it. I will not get nasty ever again. I will debate you on the issues. But the name calling is over. If you feel the need to name call then by all means go ahead.

Suddenly claiming to climb up on some ficticious high horse?

Thanks fot the laughs!!!! :-D

I do so love the humor.

Much appreciated!

Glad you are laughing TGIX.

Glad you are laughing TGIX. Keep on attacking and insulting. That is what you are known for.

Never was the saying more true -

Describing yourself while pointing at me - one finger pointing at me means you have 4 pointing back at yourself. I really thought you were more original than to use such an old worn out tactic like that. It may have worked for the Nazi's but remember they only won the battle with such propaganda, they lost the war.

What a juvenile answer TGIX.

What a juvenile answer TGIX. I know you are but what am I.

So did you figure it out yet?

Do you know now which hemisphere of the planet you're on? Having such difficulty on that before really had to make one wonder. But you do know where you are now, right? If not, there are maps available for free all over the place online.

Attack attack attack. Guess that is all you know.
