Baby seats recalled due to head injuries

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Some 1 million foam baby seats sold by Target Corp, Wal-Mart Stores Inc and other large retailers are being recalled because of reports of young children falling out of the seats, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said on Thursday.
The safety agency said it received 28 reports of young children falling out of the seats, including three who suffered skull fractures because the seats had been placed atop tables.
The baby seats, made by Bumbo International of South Africa, sold for about $40 each from August 2003 through October 2007. Retailers that sold the product also included Sears Holdings, Kmart, Toys "R" Us, USA Babies, it said.
The round Bumbo Baby Sitter Seats are 15 inches in diameter and made of molded polyurethane foam that wraps around a child.
Consumers should contact Bumbo to obtain new warning label stickers and instructions for the recalled baby seats and should never use the infant seat on a table, countertop, chair or other elevated surface, the agency said.
On its Web site, Bumbo said it temporarily stopped selling the baby seat until safety packaging can be updated. "The Bumbo Baby Seat is safe when used properly, but we have voluntarily agreed to update the packaging to ensure there is no confusion about the safe, proper use of the Bumbo Baby Seat," the company said.
The baby seat is designed for infants who are six weeks old or able to support their own heads, up to an age of about 12 to 14 months or about 22 pounds, Bumbo said.

I have one of these for Addison, and I bought one for my neice. THIS IS ONLY BECAUSE PARENTS SIT THEIR CHILDREN IN THESE AND DONT WATCH THEM!!!!!Addi arches her back, but if you watch her, you can pull her legs down and she is fine.
THis is because parents sit their kids in here, and LEAVE THEM as a temporary babysitter!!! They break their skulls because parents are putting them up on tables and countertops! This is a GREAT seat that my daughter loves, it is the parent swho are looking to blame the maker instead of themselves for their kid falling out...if they were watching them, it wouldn't have happened!

I had one of those for my son when he was a baby and NEVER was I stupid enough to put it on any high surface with my son in it. It's just common sense, which people seem to be severely lacking these days.
How much ya'll wanna bet there's a warning somewhere on that thing that say's not to leave the child unattended and not to place it on a high surface.

If you are too stupid to adequately secure your child in a retard proof safety seat, then you lose your privilege of having children. Having kids is a privilege NOT a right. I can accurately say that 9 out of 10 parents are idiots and should never have been allowed to have children. THEY make things very difficult for those of us with above average intelligence. In the sense that health care is so expensive because people like we are discussing here don’t pay their medical bills so we get stuck with the bill. They are the reason everybody sues everybody because they don’t want to take responsibility for their own idiocy.
