IF I watch tv late, it's ...

IF I watch tv late, it's ONLY Leno and Conan.

I think Letterman is the ...

I think Letterman is the next best thing to Carson. I miss Johnny soooo much...

Anyway, I used to watch every night a while back and then couldn't stay up that late all the time so I recorded the shows. It's really weird but they are NOT at ALL funny during the day. There's something about dry humor, or his particular style anyway, that only "works" late at night.

Leno's voice, his pelican chin, and his horrible HORRIBLE delivery of jokes are such a turn off to me. I've tried many times to like him without any luck. I don't find him funny. You can see how he's delivering "lines" that were written for him which he clearly did not read even once beforehand while with Letterman you get a tongue-in-cheek approach that makes him able to pull it off. He's a riot when he's at his best. It's something he didn't self style but borrowed from Johnny but he's so much more refined at it than Leno. Letterman can do "cocky" alright but you know it's deliberate when he does it. With Leno, he's just cocky in an awkward kind of way. That's uncomfortable. I often find myself feeling embarrassed for him he's so bad. Sounding "canned" like Leno does is only funny if it's done occasionally and it's all the time with Leno. On the other hand, Letterman makes "canned" the thing that's funny because he gives it a twist where he reveals that he knows it's canned, he plays on that.

I've studied humor. Most people think there is one type of humor. Ask them and they'll tell you humor means jokes. Noooooooo, not even hardly! Humor can be (and I'm sure I'll leave some out here) anything from jokes to slapstick to situational comedy. It can be dry or sophisticated or silly or dirty or rye or insults, quips or staged or complex, one liners or puns or riddles. It can be colorful or plain, understated or in your face. It can be self deprecating or smug. Letterman makes good use of a wider range than anyone else out there, hands down. He's more intellectual and he's more original. He's also a gentleman and pays his writers. Who said he is WITHOUT writers???? Letterman is paying his writers. In most strikes they'd call them "scabs" and they'd picket a guy like David who'd hire them. No one does that because they know they'd have HELL to pay for it if they did. He'd have a Top Ten for them that'd put them out of work for life they'd be so ridiculed. Comedy is something we need now more than ever and you can only laugh so much at what's going on these days before you realize that it's not so funny (the war, the economy, the destruction of our constitution etc.) so let Letterman be Letterman. It's anti-American not to.

me either, I just don't ...

me either, I just don't "get" letterman, he doesn't float my boat.

<p>AND remember back in ...

AND remember back in the day, didn't letterman used to come on AFTER leno/carson on NBC before he moved to CBS?

Dawn, you are my new best ...

Dawn, you are my new best friend. lol. conan is GOD to me. lol. and his show is a million times better without the writers. i want to go to NY to see him and im reaaallly hoping that the strike is still happening by the time i get to go. *crosses fingers*

lol, walter !

lol, walter !

Craig Kilborn was a riot, ...

Craig Kilborn was a riot, far better than O'Brien IMO.

Whatever happened to him? Anyone know? One day he just upped and disappeared and there wasn't a word about it anywhere that I heard or read. I even searched online. I wonder why the show was canceled and what he's doing now.

Actually it was Letterman ...

Actually it was Letterman that paid them the whole time, Leno paid them ONCE and then FIRED half/most of them. Letterman owns his show, which has helped him seal a deal to let his writers return to work.
Leno is an ass..I can't STAND to watch him. Letterman has his stupid joke moments, but Paul always trys to rescue him.

Thank you Mandy. I knew it ...

Thank you Mandy. I knew it was Letterman who paid his staff. He's a true gentleman. Leno was gunning for Johnny's job from day one and I never liked him. I've tried many times to give him a chance but he rubs me the wrong way. HIs voice alone is so bad my dog runs and hides in the corner whimpering whenever he hears it and if I didn't have the remote control I'd be right there joining him.
