So tell me. ..

Not sure if any of you have seen the 'freecreditdotcom' commercials, but I have! They tell ytou throughout the ad that 'all' you do is go online, and get your FREE CREDIT REPORT!!!

Well, I looked and it is true, the report IS 'free'. . . as long as you use a credit card to sign up for a 30 day trail period!!! So, what if the REASON you are looking is to see WHY you can't get a credit card? I don't have one and they don't take debit cards! I was looking for a background check, not even for a credit card. I was (and still am) wondering what prospective employers might be seeing.  But, since I don't have a credit card, I guess I am gonna have to hire a private eye or something. . .

If you are looking for a ...

If you are looking for a background check then freecreditreport.com is NOT the place to go. That website only gives you financial information like your credit rating, what loans you have, where you have open credit, how much open credit, etc. This is a site you would use if you wanted to make sure nobody was opening a credit card in your name, or getting a car loan in your name.

I did a background search on someone once (she was going to be moving in with me) and I used ussearch.com - they charge (all background checks charge). It gave me really detailed information, including all known addresses (former and current), and any legal cases she was involved in. I let her know I did one just so she was aware, and when she saw it she said "What's this case about" and found out she was owed money. Prospective employers do a background check, not a credit check. Your bank would do a credit check before giving you a loan.

So that you can see how far away you are from qualifying for one, or a loan. You don't have to have a credit card to have credit. My coworker has super good credit and he's never had a card in his name, never taken a loan, nothing.

and I used to do that freecreditreport.com thing and I think I was charged about 30 something dollars after one month and like 15 bucks a month for monitoring of my cards, but after a few months I realized I was just wasting money.

I used truecredit.com for my credit monitoring. It's 10 a month to keep an eye on your stuff, which is pretty cheap. It does monitor all three agencies too - the ones Dawn mentioned. Again though, this is nothing that a prospective employer would see - that would come from a site like ussearch.com
