First, let me say that I am NOT a racist, but I do have a question.  All headlines, news agencies, etc. are calling Barack Obama an African-American.  Now, his mother was white, his father black, wouldn't that make him a Mulatto, not African-American or Caucasian?

mu⋅lat⋅to

I've asked this question ...

I've asked this question myself, but he has chosen (and is choosing) his AA roots over those of his "white side." Seems slightly racially prejudiced on his part, but I'm sure that's not the case...(she said, tongue-in-cheek.)

I would that technically ...

I would that technically speaking, yes, however he identifies himself as black and I see no reason not to allow him that right if that is what he chooses.

For one thing, I think if you look at him and never knew his mother was white most anyone would say he is black.

Also, it's interesting how racists are often the ones who bring up this question (and I'm not saying you are one of them, I'll take you at your word that you are not) because white racists have a very long long tradition of considering as black anyone with even one black ancestor in their family tree, no matter how many generations ago.

The bottom line though is who really cares? Why should it matter? Look at who he is by what he says And does. That is what defines a person, not their clothes or color of their skin or religion or lack of belief in any invisible deity. It should not matter what color your eyes are, either. I do find it interesting when I come across a black with blue eyes like when I photographed Smokey Robinson and I have a client that looks a lot like him too with blue eyes. Does anyone know if that means they have white genes or how that happens? It's so unusual.

<p>I AM one as far as the ...

I AM one as far as the info goes that my mom has told me (I don't know my biological sperm donor) and I call myself black cuz that's how I look. I have never considered myself white cuz I was raised "black", my mom is black. I don't try to play both sides of the coin to suit myself for convenience. I am what I am. see for yourself www.myspace.com/dawnwm

One of my co-workers was ...

One of my co-workers was born in Africa and lived there until he was 7. He was told by the US government that does not qualify for the benefits reserved for black african Americans because he's white. Funny, he's one of MAYBE five people I have ever met that is actually from africa. hmmmmm disqualified for benefits reserved for african americans because of the color of his skin. Truly sickening. That ladies and gentleman is the very definition of racism is it not?

Exactly katrina...I've ...

Exactly katrina...I've been saying that about Obama for like..EVER!!

Now in his statement as President..when asked what type of dog they would get..as his daughter is allergic and they have to get a hyper-allergenic pet..Obama's reply was basically, "We'd like to get a shelter dog..however..that's not possible since most of them are 'muts'..like myself.."

Ok..he played the black ticket..got the vote..we have to deal with him for the next 4 years.

However...after he got into office...I found his speech pretty cool.

Granted..I'm not his biggest fan as I found his lies to be way over the top but after the McCain camp did to Sarah Palin what they did (with no public reply from McCain..)..that man has completely made me wonder why I voted for him in the first place!!

Sore loser? Who knows!! All I can say is that the McCain camp owes Sarah Palin an apology!

look at halle berry and ...

look at halle berry and mariah carey...white mothers, black fathers, one "looks" white, one "looks" black, they both are basically considered black. you know what people say...any little bit of black in you, no matter how much, you are "considered" black. at least that's what some say.

<p>There are whites from ...

There are whites from Africa slappy.

Listen to the man (President-elect Obama) speak. See what he does. There is goober white trash all over this country who behave so poorly that they make the ebonic speaking inner city blacks look refined by comparison.

The bottom line is that race means less and less anymore these days, especially after this election! And one day, hopefully not so far off in the future, it will be meaningless. Then we can focus entirely on what makes a person who they are, their actions.

"There are whites from ...

"There are whites from Africa slappy." Umm yeah....very much aware of that. My point was that 99.9% of "african Americans" have never set foot on African soil. Nor did their great great grandparents. My white friend defines African American because he is FROM Africa, born and mostly raised there. Yet, he is not considered African American because his skin is white. Something wrong there. Also, contrary to what you seem to believe about the future of race relations in this country, you will see race relations deteriorate with Obama in the white house. No doubt about it. Not because of anything he will say or do but because of what others will say AND do. The fire that IS race relations in this country has been heavily stoked. Trust me.

<p>"you will see race ...

"you will see race relations deteriorate with Obama in the white house. No doubt about it. "

It is very clear from what you write that you have preconceived notions and this is what you want, problems between people. Why would anyone want such difficulties? Isn't it better when humans agree, or agree to disagree, and bond for their common cause? Isn't that how we prevail? Not by fighting and being destructive against one another?

Can you not see what this country has just spoken out for? We have made it abundantly clear that we don't care about your racist issues anymore, we're past that. We care about doing what's right. The republicans did what was wrong. They started an unjust war and killed nearly a million innocent Iraqis while killing several thousand of our own young boys and girls and maiming for life tens of thousands more. They decimated our economy by sending millions of jobs overseas and giving billions and billions in tax perks to the uber rich who did that and who raped our credit system. And they polluted this planet like some drunken bastards peeing on the sidewalk in front of their own houses.

We're done with all that. It's time to heal, if we can and we believe that YES WE CAN.

on the pipe again?

on the pipe again?

So according to TGIX ...

So according to TGIX racism IS over Americans !!! How could you say that racism is over? Do you realize how ridiculous that is? Just because America voted a mulatto into the white house does NOT mean racism is over.

Just another liberal "Utopian" society WISH. Nothing more. There are a couple hundred million people that disagree with you on this one TGIX. I NEVER thought something like this would come out of YOUR mouth. I actually thought you were better than that. LIve and learn I guess.

I HATE that term african ...

I HATE that term african american. I have NEVER been there, or anyone that I can recall in my past, has not been there. we're BLACK, plain and simple, a black american.period.

I also noticed you never apologized for calling President-elect Obama's Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanual, an arab muslim when he is in fact jewish. It is the honorable thing to do you know.
