Do they think I was born yesterday?

By: Mad Vulcan in People Who Are..., Car buying service - on October 10th, 2008

Let me tell you a little story. Today I went to a GM dealer because we are thinking about getting a new truck. I went to the dealership and they totally tried to scam me. I am to smart for that ***** I told the guy I want to go through my bank not GMAC. I know they make way more money going through GMAC then if I go through my bank. They didn't listen to me and ran my credit report without my approval. Came back said we can sell you this truck for 558 dollars a month I just looked him and said the deal is over I told you what I wanted to do. Man was I mad. I told the guy give me the information and trade in on my car and I will run it through MY bank.

So I just ran it through my bank online guess what my payments were for the same thing. 360 bucks 318 without the trade in. What was worse was I just hit a deer with that care and have not turned it into the insurance yet he wanted me to, get this give them the check for the insurance. They would fix the car for fracking free. Then sell it for a big price. I told my wife NO Fracking way we will get the insurance to fix the car get the real trade in value of it and not eat that much money.

If I would have agreed to that deal it would have been stupid on me. I will never go back to that place and I really wanted that GMC Canyon.

Wanna buy a car?

By: PeeveMeister in People Who Are..., Automobile, Car buying service - on August 11th, 2008

Buying a car from a dealer is one of the few remaining truly miserable experiences the citizens of this great country are unfortunately subjected to on a regular basis.

I happen to be shopping for a new car last week.  I have never been confronted by a bigger bunch of liars, cheaters and thieves in my life.  Car dealers and their sales staff engage in some of the most deceptive, deceitful, misleading and underhanded sales tactics I have ever witnessed.  I can smell the scams when I enter the showroom (rather than the smell of new cars).

Now it just so happens that I’ve bought/leased and sold many cars over the years.  Plus I know a little bit about cars and the car business.  But it took all of my experience and patience to ensure that I was not “buried” in a bad deal.  That’s what the car dealers themselves call it (while laughing in private): “Burying” someone in a deal. Isn’t that pleasant.

Does anyone have a horror story about buying a car from your friendly neighborhood car dealer?  I’d love to hear it.

I think I’m going to buy a bicycle instead.

Peeve On!

The Peeve Meister

P.S. Congrats to Diolma, our Rant-of-the-Week winner from last week. And good luck to all you Super Peevers this week. We'll be awarding another set of prizes for the best comment to this week's "Rant of the Week."

What???

By: AKsnowbunnie in Automobile, Car buying service - on May 11th, 2008

Did I screw up or something?? I just saw a commercial for Jeeps where they are giving you regular gas (87) for $2.99 for three years. Check out jeep.com it's even there! If I had known this I would have waited until now to buy my new vehicle!!!

Also- Iggy - is there any way to set up the post-making section so it doesn't select "People who are" by default.. Sorry, I know I'm getting picky aren't I?

1:00 has come and gone…

By: AKsnowbunnie in People Who Are..., Late, Rude, Car buying service - on April 20th, 2008

So this Rude woman has contacted me about buying my car. She sent me an email and asked me to call her. I did that night, as I emailed her and told her I would. She had her phone turned off so I left her a message including my number. The next day she sends me another email, asking me to call again. I don't know why she couldn't, but whatever. She tells me it's urgent that she gets a car this weekend. I call her and she says "I will come see you at 1. It's now 2 PM and I haven't even gotten a call from her.

Now don't get me wrong, I had no plans for today other then to wait for her to see my car. But then I got a phone call that my plates are in at the dealer, and I figured after she came I would go get them. Well I've been here an hour waiting for her to call. No phone call saying "Oh, can I come at a different time" or anything like that, just left me hanging.

I've decided SCREW her rude late rear-end, I'm going to get my plates. To think, I even washed the car for her. I hope the other guy comes and buys it, because I will tell this lady I still have it then when she's on her way tell her it was sold. I might as well get back at her for wasting my time right?

EDITED TO ADD:  So I wrote this post, and grabbed my purse and keys. As I got ready to turn the knob to open the door and leave, she pulled up. Still no phone call from her when she was on her way. She sure got lucky.

Dont buy from Bo!

By: GoFigure in People Who Are..., Car buying service - on March 25th, 2008

I bought a 1998 F150 with approximately 70560 miles for cash and trade from Bo’s AutoRama.  I initially went to Bo Beuckman on Manchester and the sales rep took me to AutoRama because his lot did not have what I was looking for. I requested a warranty, but was told none was available. I was told that “Used vehicles were as is”, but I figured I was buying from a large dealership so the truck should have been checked out and in working order.  Talk about being WRONG!   The first year of ownership was just super - NOT.  After less than 3500 miles, the truck began to really run rough.  I took it to Ford and was told I needed to replace all the spark plugs and wires and get a tune up. The wipers needed replacing and did not work right, the back window leaked, and the muffler was in need of replacement, so I took care of that stuff too. I felt these items are typical for a used vehicle but should probably have been identified and fixed at the dealership before sale, but what the heck, it’s used. Then after just 3000 more miles, the rear end broke! Right after I got that fixed and less than 1000 miles later, the transmission took a poop. Now I was mad!  I took the truck to Ford and they fixed the transmission, but then practically driving off the lot, the rear end broke again.  And get this, Ford would not warranty the parts used to fix the rear end because I did not have it done in their over priced, slow moving, inconvenient houred, No-Service here Center.  So I took it back to the original mechanic and he fixed the rear end again.  Then can ya guess? Yep, transmission craps out not a week later.  So I take it back to Ford since they did that work and get it fixed again.  When they got done, the rear end went out again.   I must say, “impressive and thorough” is not how I would describe Ford Dealers, Ford Parts Center, or Ford Sales People. I do have a couple of words that I believe are more accurate and you can probably guess them. Ford has already heard them.   18 months after the purchase I find myself bringing the truck in for more repairs.  $430 to have the spark plug wires replaced, for the 3rd time at Ford.  A job any other place could do for nearly ½ the price, and kind of scary since it was the first thing to go wrong with that vehicle and there is still a miss. The windshield wipers are out of sync again, so guess that's next, and that’s the 2nd time around for that. I am feeling a little Deja Vu here and I’m about 6,000 short in the bank for the repairs to this vehicle.  And what comes in my mail the day I am going to pick up the truck from Ford?  A letter from Ford saying, “Now that you’ve owned your truck for over year, for peace of mind…”  Yep, they offered me an expensive, no real coverage warranty.   Since I had all these issues with the truck, I have reviewed the paperwork from the purchase. The vehicle was sold to me as an individually owned vehicle but it really was a fleet vehicle from a business in down town St. Louis and had been wrecked and repainted.  The miles were supposed to be true, but if you look close at previous paperwork left in the glove compartment it shows they are really unknown. The truck says it’s a 98 on some paperwork, but other papers show it’s a 93.  I have written and tried to contact the GM of Bo Beuckman, but like Osama – he must be in hiding.  My opinion?  “You Gotta Pass On Bo!”

Howdy Peevers!!

By: AKsnowbunnie in People Who Are..., Bossy, Life, Motherhood/Moms, Fatherhood/Dads, Rude, Automobile, Car buying service, Car financing assistance - on March 18th, 2008

I just wanted to drop by and say HELLO to all the peevers that I miss… which is everyone except TGIX. I also figured I would give you an update on my car search.

I am going to pick up my Brand New 2008 Chevy Equinox LS tonight. It's an AWD, and I got a good deal on it. I'm glad I'm finally getting, as my dad has been a ROYAL pain during all of this. He's the type of person to buy 8 cars that equal the price of one brand new one, and they will combined last not as long as the new one. Luckily my mom has purchased a brand new car from a dealer so I kinda have her "on my side" so to speak. It's not really on my side, but when he says "I wouldn't do it" I have her saying "I have done it".

As for financing, I have AWESOME parents that are helping me out. They had offerered to pay for the car in whole, and me pay them back, but I want to use this opportunity to help build my credit. I am getting a loan for half the cost, and then a loan from them for the other half. I haven't decided if I will go through the bank or dealer, I have to ask the dealer if there is a penalty for paying it off early, and if not then I will go through him. Believe it or not he is cheaper then my bank!!

Wish me luck everyone, and I will post pictures as soon as I can, maybe tomorrow. It's crazy, they are letting me take it home and I haven't paid them ANYTHING. I'm full of all sorts of emotions right now! This is my first BRAND new car, and the only other thing I bought "brand new" for ME was my computer. So I'm really happy.

It's amazing how far I've come since I left the house across the street from the crack heads!

A little input would be great!!

By: AKsnowbunnie in Driving / Traffic, Automobile, Car buying service, Car purchases - on February 21st, 2008

So I'm starting my shopping for a new vehicle. I'm getting a truck, and nothing is going to change my mind on that. This winter in my Subaru was scary, and I'd rather pay more money towards gas then have a fuel efficient coffin.

I was going to get an 06 or 07, but after pricing some vehicles I think I might end up with an 08. I have it narrowed down as well. It's going to be either a Dodge Ram, Chevy Silverado, or Toyota Tundra. I found that the Ram and Silverado are close in price, but the Tundra seems to be much more expensive. I haven't gone for any test drives yet, I want to get the specs and references first, then do a test drive.

If any of you peevers have any input let me know!!!

I am PISSED/I am HAPPY

By: MNolen in People Who Are..., Automobile, Car buying service, Car financing assistance, Car purchases - on February 20th, 2008

Ok, I am happy because I traded in my Xterra, and got an 08 Nissan Pathfinder! YEAH! Now we can all fit into one car when Jaxson comes down, and no longer have to take 2 cars EVERYWHERE!

Now, I am pissed because we got our paperwork drawn up ready to sign the moment we walk in the door to the dealership (2 hours away), and instead of the agreed upon monthly payment of $550, the paperwork says $650! We want to pay it off asap, but DAMN! Oh, well. We still signed the paperwork.

My job is great, and as soon as I can sit down to chill and drink a WHOLE cup of coffee before it cools, I will get on here at work. Damn! Some of you turds really get to me…….I have no clue how I can miss a crackerjack group of people I have never "met"……..and slappy, it wasn't my fault….if you would have emailed earlier!

Hope everyone is good…..and I saw where someone screwed up the page……Can we get an updated score?? What was it, Walter-1, TGIX-1, Dawn-?, Katrina-1

Take care all, and hope to be back on soon!
