How would you like this to happen to you and your family?

By: navybrat76 in Health, Motherhood/Moms, Fatherhood/Dads, Stupid, Foreign exchange - on October 31st, 2008

How would you like this to happen to your family?  You have a specialty that is needed in another country, go over there to help and want to bring your family with you only to get denied because your child has a "special" medical condition?  I think that this is discrimination.  I am so angry and upset right now from reading this that I want to write a letter to the government there and give them a good piece of my mind, and then send a letter to the family for my condolences.  I know one thing, this country was on my list to visit before I died…well, not no more!

Update!!

By: AKsnowbunnie in People Who Are..., Life, Motherhood/Moms, Fatherhood/Dads, Travel - on October 22nd, 2008

I have decided to fly home for X-mas after all. I did some thinking, and kinda weighed things out. If I don't go home, then my holiday is ruined, as well as my mothers, my fathers, and all my friends. If I do go home, the only holiday being ruined is my brothers wife. So I decided SCREW HER she can buck up and do her part of "joining my family". I didn't marry anyone, she did. I talked to my parents, and they both agree. Apparently my brother, without knowing I was going to cancel, flipped out on her last night about how she wasn't going to get her way this holiday.

I just think it's really sad and pathetic on her part to try to make plans when she knows I'm coming in. I guess my brother told her flat out "my sister is flying in from Alaska for X-mas, she is the priority". And I don't see why that needed to be said. I'm not married, but if I was I wouldn't expect to do anything but go to see the person traveling in from that far away. So after talking to my parents it seems that *I* am the cause of my brother "putting her in her place" in terms of these things. It's about damn time too!!!!

I could see if they wanted to have their own thing at their house for the babies first x-mas, but that's not the case. She just wants to go to her moms house and do their "traditional" things. I told my parents and they agreed - she married my brother and now they have a kid, it's time for them to make their OWN traditions and "break the chains" from how things were. They ARE their own family now, not her family or his family, THEIR family. I hope she gets this through her head and I don't have to knock it in there for her!

This will be the FIRST holiday since they got married that she will not get her way and be with her family. *slams foot down* Screw her, that evil succubus b*tch.

I have HAD it

By: AKsnowbunnie in People Who Are..., Parenting, Motherhood/Moms, Fatherhood/Dads, Travel - on October 21st, 2008

First off Iggy - the "post your rant" has moved down on the left, not sure if you intended that to happen… almost had me thinking I couldn't post anything new.

ON TO MY RANT:  Stupid Christmas, and stupid family. For starters, I did NOT want to go home for the holiday in the first place. But, because my mom wanted me to and my brother wanted me to meet my nephew I decided I would. Not for me, FOR THEM. I do not have enough vacation time, so when I come back to work my paycheck will be short, SEVERELY short. This was ok with me being I have my PFD in the bank still, just for that reason.

Then we had the "where to spend x-mas" fiasco. It SHOULD have been understood that we are spending it where *I* consider home, after all I am the one traveling from f-ing Alaska for the holiday. But no, every time I talk to my parents I get told "Your brother and his wife want to spend it at THEIR home with their new baby". I said "well they can do whatever they want to do, but if I don't see my brother on x-mas then he's no longer my brother". End of story. Should be anyways. I bought my ticket to an airport half an hour from home to save on driving in winter.

We talk on the phone, and every time we talk on the phone my parents say "We don't know what your brother is doing for x-mas" and I say the same thing, if he's not home, blah blah blah. We chat in emails, and I made DAMN sure that I will not have to sit in a car to drive to Maryland after having to sit on a plane for all them hours. Hence the reason I am flying to a small airport that isn't far from the house - because I don't want to fly and then sit in a car for hours. As far as I know everything is good.

Last night I get an email from my mom…. "Your brother and his wife really want to spend X-mas at home with their new baby". And I flipped. I mean seriously if she was in person I would have knocked her f'ing teeth into next Tuesday. So I send her an email back, and I don't hold back. I tell her I'm sick of hearing this, and that I don't really give a flying-chit what they "want". Hell I "want" to go to the Steelers game on the 28th. And hell, I didn't even "want" to fly home for X-mas in the first place! I "want" a new Mac Laptop and some clothes. I "want" to be drunk and home in Alaska for x-mas, but I GAVE UP what I wanted to please other people, and they should be doing the same. Then I said I would sleep on it, and if I woke up just as angry as I was then, I was cancelling my ticket home.

I haven't heard back from that email, and I woke up FURIOUS that I even have to deal with this chaos. Another reason I didn't want to fly home - it's always a f'ing headache and is NOT a vacation. So I called my mom's cellphone to tell her I'm not coming home now, and my dad answers. He said "Yeah, I brought her phone so I could call your brother and nail down for sure when we're going down there". AAAARRRRGGGHHH!!! It took everything in my body to not flip out on him right then. But I bit my lip (now it's bleeding) and hung up without letting him know. Then I called my mom at work, and she says "no no no, that's not what's happening, your brother is coming up to PA for x-mas being you're coming in". I said "I don't care, it's too late, and I'm done with this chaos and headache, it's over I'm not coming home".

She tried all the normal "mom" tactics - the "you broke my heart" and the "don't make decisions when you're angry" and the guilt trip. Problem with her guilt trip is that she has been pissing me off since I bought the ticket, and it's impossible to guilt trip me. I told her what dad said, and she said "oh I talked to your brother last night, your dad doesn't know". WTF??? You people f'ing live together and you can't have the same god damn story??

So I've decided that I am cancelling my ticket this afternoon. I have had it. I have a headache bigger then Texas, and this is again not going to be a vacation. I refuse to spend this holiday miserable doing things for other people and then getting crapped on by them. It's over, finished. I am so pissed off right now. It's October and this vacation already blows, so I'm not going on it. She can hate me for it I don't care, right now I hate all of them for not getting their **** together, and expecting me to bend over backwards while on MY vacation. They wanted me to come home, so I bought the ticket. Now they can't spend ONE f'ing day with me so fuk them!

My other rant: I ate all my xanax trying to calm down and I'm still flipping out…. they need to make that **** stronger.

NINE WORDS WOMEN USE

(1) Fine: This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and

you need to shut up.

(2) Five Minutes: If she is getting dressed, this means a half an hour. Five

minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given five more minutes to

watch the game before helping around the house.

(3) Nothing: This is the calm before the storm. This means something, and you

should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with nothing usually end in fine.

(4) Go Ahead: This is a dare, not permission. Don't Do It!

(5) Loud Sigh: This is actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often

misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders

why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you about nothing.

(Refer back to # 3 for the meaning of nothing.)

(6) That's Okay: This is one of the most dangerous statements a women can

make to a man. That's okay means she wants to think long and hard before

deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.

(7) Thanks: A woman is thanking you, do not question, or faint. Just say

you're welcome. (I want to add in a clause here - This is true, unless she

says 'Thanks a lot' - that is PURE sarcasm and she is not thanking you

at all. DO NOT say 'you're welcome' . that will bring on a

'whatever').

(8) Whatever: Is a woman's way of saying F– YOU!

(9) Don't worry about it, I got it: Another dangerous statement, meaning

this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is now

doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking 'What's

wrong?' For the woman's response refer to # 3.

* Send this to the men you know, to warn them about arguments they can avoid if

they remember the terminology.

* Send this to all the women you know to give them a good laugh, cause they

know it's true!!!

I don't know if any of you have already seen this but it really makes you look a little differently at all the things we complain about!

I AM THANKFUL:

FOR THE WIFE
WHO SAYS IT'S EGGS N BACON TONIGHT,
BECAUSE SHE IS HOME WITH ME,
AND NOT OUT WITH SOMEONE ELSE.

FOR THE HUSBAND
WHO IS ON THE SOFA
BEING A COUCH POTATO,
BECAUSE HE IS HOME WITH ME
AND NOT OUT AT THE BARS.

FOR THE TEENAGER
WHO IS COMPLAINING ABOUT DOING DISHES
BECAUSE IT MEANS SHE IS AT HOME,
NOT ON THE STREETS.

FOR THE TAXES I PAY
BECAUSE IT MEANS
I AM EMPLOYED .

FOR THE MESS TO CLEAN AFTER A PARTY
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE
BEEN SURROUNDED BY FRIENDS.

FOR THE CLOTHES THAT FIT A LITTLE TOO SNUG
BECAUSE IT MEANS
I HAVE ENOUGH TO EAT.

FOR MY SHADOW THAT WATCHES ME WORK
BECAUSE IT MEANS
I AM OUT IN THE SUNSHINE

FOR A LAWN THAT NEEDS MOWING,
WINDOWS THAT NEED CLEANING,
AND GUTTERS THAT NEED FIXING
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE A HOME .

FOR ALL THE COMPLAINING
I HEAR ABOUT THE GOVERNMENT
BECAUSE IT MEANS
WE HAVE FREEDOM OF SPEECH. .

FOR THE PARKING SPOT
I FIND AT THE FAR END OF THE PARKING LOT
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM CAPABLE OF WALKING
AND I HAVE BEEN BLESSED WITH TRANSPORTATION.

FOR MY HUGE HEATING BILL
BECAUSE IT MEANS
I AM WARM.

FOR THE LADY BEHIND ME IN CHURCH
WHO SINGS OFF KEY BECAUSE IT MEANS
I CAN HEAR.

FOR THE PILE OF LAUNDRY AND IRONING
BECAUSE IT MEANS
I HAVE CLOTHES TO WEAR.

FOR WEARINESS AND ACHING MUSCLES
AT THE END OF THE DAY
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE BEEN
CAPABLE OF WORKING HARD.

FOR THE ALARM THAT GOES OFF
IN THE EARLY MORNING HOURS
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM ALIVE.

AND FINALLY, FOR TOO MUCH E-MAIL
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE
FRIENDS WHO ARE THINKING OF ME. :-)

This one is for everyone who…

a) has kids

b) had kids

c) was a kid

d) knows a kid

e) is going to have kids.

I guess that means all of us!!

DADDY'S GONNA EAT YOUR FINGERS

I was packing for my business trip and my three year old daughter was having a wonderful time playing on the bed. At one point she said,'Daddy, look at this', and stuck out two of her fingers.

Trying to keep her entertained, I reached out and stuck her tiny fingers in my mouth and said,

'Daddy's gonna eat your fingers,'

pretending to eat them.

I went back to packing, looked up again and my daughter was standing on the bed staring at her fingers with a devastated look on her face.

I said, 'What's wrong, honey?'
She replied,

'What happened to my booger?'

Woo Hoo! Ex’s stimulus check

By: WADV in Laws, Fatherhood/Dads - on July 1st, 2008

Tongue out Woo Hoo! A while back my ex was complaining to me that his stimulus check was seized by the state for back child support. He was complaining because they took it he says to give to me. What the heck does he want from me? It has been 3 years since I have seen a dime from him. At the time I hadn't seen anything so I said maybe ex #2 got it. No, for you. He went on and on about how she is living with him (ya, once she turned 18 and the child support stopped) and he shouldn't have to pay anything.

Anyway, Saturday in the mail THERE IT WAS a check for $348.52. Sadly, that is THE biggest child support check I have EVER gotten from him. SO, while in Sams Club they had a returned 42' plasma TV (originally $3,300) marked WAY down. I wonder if I should send him a thank you note for the new TV and send a picture of it to him! tee hee!

I really enjoyed spending that money. I think of it as found money since it has been 3 years and will probably never see the rest of it.  Innocent

A joke . . .

By: WalterTH3rd in Parenting, Children, Motherhood/Moms, Fatherhood/Dads, OT: Jokes - on June 27th, 2008

 'Lizard Birth'

If you have raised kids (or been one), and gone through the pet syndrome, including toilet flush burials for dead goldfish, the story below will have you laughing out LOUD!

Overview: I had to take my son's lizard to the vet.

 Here's what happened:

Just after dinner one night, my son came up to tell me there was 'something wrong' with one of the two lizards he holds prisoner in his room.

'He's just lying there looking sick,' he told me. 'I'm serious, Dad. Can you help?'

I put my best lizard-healer expression on my face and followed him into his bedroom. One of the little lizards was indeed lying on his back, looking stressed. I immediately knew what to do.

'Honey,' I called, 'come look at the lizard!'

'Oh, my gosh!' my wife exclaimed. 'She's having babies.'

'What?' my son demanded. 'But their names are Bert and Ernie, Mom!'

 I was equally outraged.

'Hey, how can that be? I thought we said we didn't want them to reproduce,' I said accusingly to my wife.

'Well, what do you want me to do, post a sign in their cage?' she inquired (I think she actually said this sarcastically!)

'No, but you were supposed to get two boys!' I reminded her, (in my most loving, calm, sweet voice, while gritting my teeth).

'Yeah, Bert and Ernie!' my son agreed.

'Well, it's just a little hard to tell on some guys, you know,' she informed me (Again with the sarcasm!).

By now the rest of the family had gathered to see what was going on. I shrugged, deciding to make the best of it.

'Kids, this is going to be a wondrous experience,' I announced. 'We're about to witness the miracle of birth..'

 'Oh, gross!' they shrieked

'Well, isn't THAT just great? What are we going to do with a litter of tiny little lizard babies?' my wife wanted to know.

We peered at the patient. After much struggling, what looked like a tiny foot would appear briefly, vanishing a scant second later.

'We don't appear to be making much progress,' I noted.

'It's breech,' my wife whispered, horrified.

'Do something, Dad!' my son urged.

'Okay, okay.' Squeamishly, I reached in and grabbed the foot when it next appeared, giving it a gentle tug. It disappeared. I tried several more times with the same results.

'Should I call 911?' my eldest daughter wanted to know. 'Maybe they could talk us through the trauma.' (You see a pattern here with the females in my house?)

'Let's get Ernie to the vet,' I said grimly. We drove to the vet with my son holding the cage in his lap.

 'Breathe, Ernie, breathe,' he urged.

'I don't think lizards do Lamaze,' his mother noted to him. (Women can be so cruel to their own young. I mean what she does to me is one thing, but this boy is of her womb, for G~d's sake.).

The vet took Ernie back to the examining room and peered at the little animal through a magnifying glass.

'What do you think, Doc, a C-section?' I suggested scientifically

'Oh, very interesting,' he murmured. 'Mr. And Mrs. Cameron, may I speak to you privately for a moment?'

I gulped, nodding for my son to step outside.

'Is Ernie going to be okay?' my wife asked.

'Oh, perfectly,' the vet assured us. 'This lizard is not in labor.. In fact, that isn't EVER going to happen. Ernie is a boy. You see, Ernie is a young male. And occasionally, as they come into maturity, like most male species, they um . . Um . . Masturbate. Just the way he did, lying on his back.' He blushed, glancing at my wife..

 We were silent, absorbing this.

 'So, Ernie's just . . Just . . Excited,' my wife offered.

'Exactly,' the vet replied, relieved that we understood.

More silence. Then my vicious, cruel wife started to giggle. And giggle. And then even laugh loudly.

'What's so funny?' I demanded, knowing, but not believing that the woman I married would commit the upcoming affront to my flawless manliness.

Tears were now running down her face. 'It's just that . . I'm picturing you pulling on its . . . its. . . Teeny little . . ' She gasped for more air to bellow in laughter once more.

'That's enough,' I warned. We thanked the vet and hurriedly bundled the lizard and our son back into the car. He was glad everything was going to be okay.

'I know Ernie's really thankful for what you did, Dad,' he told me.

'Oh, you have NO idea,' my wife agreed, collapsing with laughter.

 Two lizards: $140.

 One cage: $50.

 Trip to the vet: $30.

Memory of your husband pulling on a lizard's winkie:

 Priceless!

Moral of the story: Pay attention in biology class.

 Lizards lay eggs!Blush

This May Ruffle Your Feathers

By: rkinne01 in In the News, Sex, Gay, Lesbian, General, Politics/Politicians, Dating, Boyfriends, Girlfriends, Religion, Fatherhood/Dads - on May 25th, 2008

I cannot believe Abstinence is taught in the schools today instead sex education. Abstinence is a complete and total failure, it didn't work in the past and won't now. I don't have a problem with teaching the kids that abstaining is the best option but sex ed should be taught as well. I find it amusing that its the baby Boomers who are preaching this failed policy, hypocrites.

I think that there is so much more mis-information than ever out there in regards to sex. Our kids need to be informed properly so that don't end up with a pregnancy or STD statistic. They should be taught how conception occurs and what steps can be taken to reduce exposure to diseases like AIDS or herpes.

They should also be taught the proper use of condoms, contraception, and how there anatomy should used.  Pregnancy prevention products are useless if not used properly (condoms can rip if not used correctly and can be uncomfortable).

Girls should be taught proper feminie hygenie, how to examine breasts for lumps, and checking the vaginal area for health concerns.  Boys should be taught to check for testicular cancer and other problems.

I know some of you are going to say that its the parents responsibility to explain "the birds and bees" to thier kids but the fact is that they're not doing it.  Today's parents are both working to put food on the table without enough time to have discussions about sex with the kids.

Did you know that 1 out every 4 women will raped at some point (not sure what it is for men)? Would your daughter or son know what to do if they were assaulted? I think this something that teens should be taught, what to do or not do if they a raped. Parents should have this discussion with their kids as well, especially girls.

Kids today think that oral sex is not sex at all and offers no risk, certian sexual positions won't lead to pregnancy, that "pulling out" in time gaurantees safe sex, etc… If there is no sex ed how will any of these myths be dispelled? I highly doubt any teen is going to ask mom and dad about them and if they will the parents have all the right answer?

In closing, I just think that the benefits of sex education far outweight the risks. Solely teaching abstinence is just folly and ineffective.

It Costs How Much??????

By: rkinne01 in Laws, Motherhood/Moms, Fatherhood/Dads, Financial - on May 13th, 2008

I just read that it costs $250,000 to raise a child from birth to adulthood (18). Where do they come up with these figures? That breaks down to just under $14,000 a year or just over $1000 a month. I don't think most parents have that much money, so would the government consider those parents dead beats or neglectful? Its also amusing that the state of MI pays foster parents only $800 per month, so are they're not living up to guidelines either.

#18!

By: Dawn in OT: Not Necessarily a Pet Peeve, Sex, Parenting, Children, Motherhood/Moms, Fatherhood/Dads - on May 9th, 2008

I was just watching the today show and remember that family with 17 kids? well, she's working on #18 now!!! and the today show sent the kids out to get their mom some presents for mother's day and one of the presents was an outfit and the host asked why she got her an outfit and the daughter said because most of her clothes are maternity cuz she's usually pregnant!!! yeah, no sh*t, huh??? and she still says she wants MORE!! the youngest one is barely one year old and I think the oldest is about 19 or 20. they are going to have a reality show on discovery health channel called "On the Road with 16 kids". well, more power to them, cuz it could NEVER be me!

I'm just really curious, will there EVER be a point where they say enough is enough?? they said, oh we leave it in God's hands to give us however many children we have! Okay, so is she gonna be 50 yrs old still spitting them out?? some people have menopause late, and I know they prob WON'T stop having sex, so I guess as long as she has no complicated births or medical problems, she'll be a baby making factory.

Can someone PLEASE tell me, how did this guy have three of the kids living with him and his wife NOT know what was going on? I mean seriously, you have your three grandchildren in your care, but you don't ask them where they came from, or where they last saw their mother at? It says they were found outside the home with a note from the mother. Did this guys wife NOT ONCE ask the children about their mother? What the hell kind of mother doesn't even ASK about her child that is missing?

I mean ok - your daughter leaves. You get a note from her saying not to look for her. One day a kid shows up with a note. You just let this kid into your home no questions asked?? You don't ever, not even once, ask the child "how was your mom when you saw her"? You don't even want to know if your daughter is happy??? Am I the only one not getting this? This mother is either lying, or a pathetic excuse for a mother.

I'm about to leave to run an errand BUT before I go, I MUST ask this question:

WHY is it so HARD for a man (my husb) to give a woman (ME) money??

Y'all know I was laid off about 2 weeks ago and we did get our tax refund but we have to try to conserve it since I lost my job so I don't ask for ANYTHING.  He KNOWS I have no job, I.E. no money!  WHY should I have to even ASK him for money when he KNOWS I need it and I have none at all and IF I DO ASK, WHY IS IT SUCH A F**KIN PROBLEM TO GIVE IT TO ME!!??  I need to go grocery shopping and get gas…that's all I do since I have NO job!  I don't go anywhere (to conserve gas) and I don't eat out!!

By: AKsnowbunnie in People Who Are..., Bossy, Life, Motherhood/Moms, Fatherhood/Dads, Rude, Automobile, Car buying service, Car financing assistance - on March 18th, 2008

I just wanted to drop by and say HELLO to all the peevers that I miss… which is everyone except TGIX. I also figured I would give you an update on my car search.

I am going to pick up my Brand New 2008 Chevy Equinox LS tonight. It's an AWD, and I got a good deal on it. I'm glad I'm finally getting, as my dad has been a ROYAL pain during all of this. He's the type of person to buy 8 cars that equal the price of one brand new one, and they will combined last not as long as the new one. Luckily my mom has purchased a brand new car from a dealer so I kinda have her "on my side" so to speak. It's not really on my side, but when he says "I wouldn't do it" I have her saying "I have done it".

As for financing, I have AWESOME parents that are helping me out. They had offerered to pay for the car in whole, and me pay them back, but I want to use this opportunity to help build my credit. I am getting a loan for half the cost, and then a loan from them for the other half. I haven't decided if I will go through the bank or dealer, I have to ask the dealer if there is a penalty for paying it off early, and if not then I will go through him. Believe it or not he is cheaper then my bank!!

Wish me luck everyone, and I will post pictures as soon as I can, maybe tomorrow. It's crazy, they are letting me take it home and I haven't paid them ANYTHING. I'm full of all sorts of emotions right now! This is my first BRAND new car, and the only other thing I bought "brand new" for ME was my computer. So I'm really happy.

It's amazing how far I've come since I left the house across the street from the crack heads!

Riddles & Puzzlers

By: TGIX in People Who Are..., Parenting, Children, Fatherhood/Dads - on February 8th, 2008

I've always Loved riddles and puzzlers. Here's one my son was presented with in school yesterday and he managed to come up with a solution in less than 30 seconds. Can you get it (in any amount of time) withOUT cheating by looking up the answer online?) I was not able to solve the puzzle. And please add your favorite riddle or puzzler.

There are three overhead projectors in a school class room and three light switches in a room on the opposite side of the school, each of which is connected to one of three overhead projectors. (The switches are labled A, B, & C while the projectors are labeled 1, 2, & 3). Now you are in the room with the switches and you want to know which switch goes with which projector. You can only travel across the school to the room with the projectors one time, and you cannot come back to the room with the switches. You can do anything you want upon entering the room with the projectors. How can you determine which switch goes with which projector

I never make my kids apologize JUST for apology's sake.

WHY do it if it won't be sincere and it'll be a lie anyway!

I usually ask them, "now what do you say to someone when you've hurt their feelings and you feel bad about it?"  they will usually say I'm sorry, but I WON'T MAKE them say it.  sometimes when they don't feel bad about what they've done wrong, I will talk to them about it and they may or may not end up in punishment, depending on the situation.

Don't send in the clownsGuns

Wed Jan 16, 8:32 AM ET

LONDON (Reuters) - Bad news for Coco and Blinko — children don't like clowns and even older kids are scared of them.

The news that will no doubt have clowns shedding tears was revealed in a poll of youngsters by researchers from the University of Sheffield who were examining how to improve the decor of hospital children's wards.

The study, reported in the Nursing Standard magazine, found all the 250 patients aged between four and 16
