Baseball-Out of Control? Manny Greed

By: in People Who Are..., Hollywood Stars, Sports, Baseball, Stupid, Automobile - on December 3rd, 2008

Help me out here. We are all working harder and more hours to make less money while the economy continues to reel out of control. Meanwhile, back in the sporting world these ball players like manny ramirez is holding out for $24 million a year. That is, instead of $20 Million. Sometimes I wonder that all the sports guys and celebrities help to keep feeding the culture that "i can never make enough money" while the rest of us whither. What goes here?

Same thing with the autopresident of GM, Ford.. a couple of those guys made $13 million plus last year. For what? All they did was to continue the failed strategy that they have followed for years. They should give the money back? How do we stop this madness?

Pro Athletes Hair

By: rkinne01 in Sports, Baseball, Football, Basketball - on November 20th, 2008

What all these guys with funky hair styles? I'm watching the Bulls play and there is the guy with what looks like he has Chia Pet hair. Its distracting and IMO makes the player look like a clown. Why the NBA and the sports organizations allow this is beyond me.

A rave for a change

By: rkinne01 in Sports, Basketball - on November 4th, 2008

Its nice to see something good in the news:

HARRIMAN, Tenn. – Ken Mink, a 73-year-old full-time student, scored two points Monday night in Roane State Community College's 93-42 victory over King College's junior varsity. Mink entered the game with about 16 minutes left in the second half and attempted one shot in about three minutes. Seven minutes later, he went back in the game, was fouled and made two free throws.

A few things

By: AKsnowbunnie in Work Peeves, People Who Are..., Loud, Bossy, Snobs, OT: Not Necessarily a Pet Peeve, Life, Sports, Rude - on October 14th, 2008

Rant: Work internet sucks!! We have to reset constantly, and we can't seem to hold our connection. Satellite internet blows chunks, but there is nothing we can do about it unless we want to spend a few million. And we're not big enough of a company to do that!

Rave: Hockey meet and greet tonight, I get to meet ALL the players and it's free. Also, I bought my ticket for the opening game on Friday night! I'd hit on a player but they don't have enough teeth!

Rant: My roommate with his "you should" nonsense. Just because I live with him does not mean he is welcome to tell me how I should live or what I should do in terms of ANYTHING that does not effect him or our living conditions. He did it when I bought my car "you should get this, you should get this" he did it when I talked about getting a laptop "you should get this, you should look into this". And now he's done it with my winter tires "Well you should have done this or this or this instead". SHUT IT and stay the HELL out of my business!

Rave: Winter is TOTALLY here. It's been snowing all day, and they're saying 9" by tonight. AND my studs (that my roommate said were a waste of money) have already come in handy TWO DAYS in a row!! My Equinox is a freakin' tank!! I ♥ it so much!

I'll try to stop by again tomorrow, but if it's cloudy in Canada we probably won't have internet again at the office… Wait did I say Canada? I think I meant Tahiti… no no wait I mean France… oh no I mean… who the hell knows!

Marathon hopeful, 101-year-old , training hard

user posted image

Already Britain's oldest employee, 101-year-old Buster Martin now aims to become the world's oldest marathon runner by completing the London Marathon and celebrating with a pint of beer and a cigarette.

Sprightly and bearded, he completed a half marathon at the weekend in five hours 13 minutes. The former Army physical training instructor works three days a week for a London plumbing firm and says he has trained for the April 13th race in his spare time.

"I've said I'll attempt it," he told Reuters by telephone from his workplace at Pimlico Plumbers. "I haven't said I'll complete it. If I do make it, all the better. I hadn't thought of doing it before but someone asked me and the money goes to charity so why not?"

His sponsorship money will go to the Rhys Daniels Trust, which provides temporary accommodation for families of patients in specialist children's hospitals.

Martin, who had 17 children and returned to work at the age of 99 saying he was bored after two years of retirement, would beat the previous record for world's oldest marathon runner by eight years.

"If I finish, I'll do what I always do and have a pint and a fag," he said. "People ask what is my secret but I haven't got one. They say fags and booze are bad for you — but I'm still here, aren't I?"

Olympic Announcer Bloopers!

By: madmess in People Who Are..., Sports, LOL PET PEEVES - on September 2nd, 2008

Here are the top nine comments made by NBC sports commentators so far
during the Olympics —-that they would like to take back:
…..
1. Weight-lifting commentator: 'This is Gregorieva from Bulgaria. I saw her snatch this morning during her warm up and it was amazing.'
……
2. Dressage commentator: 'This is really a lovely horse and I speak from personal experience since I once mounted her mother.'
…..
3. Paul Hamm, Gymnast: 'I owe a lot to my parents, especially my mother and father.'
…..
4. Boxing Analyst: 'Sure there have been injuries, and even some deaths in boxing, but none of them really that serious.'
……
5. Softball announcer: 'If history repeats itself, I should think we can expect the same thing again.'
……
6. Basketball analyst: 'He dribbles a lot and the opposition doesn't like it. In fact you can see it all over their faces.'
……
7. At the rowing medal ceremony: 'Ah, isn't that nice, the wife of the IOC president is hugging the cox of the British crew.'
…..
8. Soccer commentator: 'Julian Dicks is everywhere. It's like they've got eleven Dicks on the field.'
…..
9. Tennis commentator: 'One of the reasons Andy is playing so well is that, before the final round, his wife takes out his balls and kisses them…
Oh my God, what have I just said?'

NOW we know WHY Dana Torrez lost the gold. . .

By: WalterTH3rd in Sports - on August 28th, 2008

Swimmer Dara Torres has minor shoulder surgery

BOYNTON BEACH, Florida (AP) - Dara Torres, the U.S. swimmer who won three silver medals in the Beijing Olympics at age 41, had surgery on her right shoulder on Wednesday.

Dr. Joseph Chalal shaved the outer end of Torres' collarbone during the arthroscopic procedure.

Torres, who missed gold by a hundredth of a second in the 50-meter freestyle in China, set an American record by competing in her fifth Olympics.

She has won 12 Olympic medals, tied with swimmer Jenny Thompson for most by an American woman, in a career that began as a 17-year-old in the 1984 Los Angeles Games.

Update on Baseball kid…

By: AKsnowbunnie in In the News, Children, Sports, Baseball - on August 26th, 2008

OK My radio guys are talking about this story right now. Turns out the league this pitcher kid plays on is a confidence building league. It's for kids around the age of 9 that have NEVER played ANY sport before. It's a confidence building league that helps beginners learn the sport so that in a year or so they can play with kids their age that have played before in the past.

The pitcher kid was OFFERED to move up to a different league, and he said NO he didn't want to. They have broken the team up and moved the kids onto other teams. They told the kid that pitches he can play, but NOT pitch, and he said no that he wanted to pitch. So due to hearing the rest of the story, I'm going to change my opinion of it. There is no way this kid is a beginner, and he shouldn't have been on a league that is a confidence builder to help kids LEARN the sport. He should have been on a higher league for his level. No way was this the kids first time touching a baseball!

here's the article:  http://blogs.usatoday.com/ondeadline/2008/08/9-year-old-pitc.html

Of course I a speaking of the UNBEATABLE doubles play of Serena and Venus Williams when they GOT THE GOLD!!!!!Cool Not really a surprise, what was surprising was that they didn't get any gold (or silver) for the individual matches. Oh well, maybe in four years, we'll see

Phelps Butterfly race. . .

By: WalterTH3rd in People Who Are..., In the News, Sports, Rude - on August 16th, 2008

Did any of you see that one? It was, to me, the most exciting race of the olympics (well, as of this AM, VERY AM). Phelps came from behind to take the win AT THE VERY LAST MOMENT! He would have gotten the silver had the Serbian racer NOT tried to glide that last foot (Phelps stroked the whole way). It was soo close that had it not been for the tech being used, it would have fallen to human eyes to make the decision and I thought the Serb WON!

Well, in 'classic' Olympic class, Phelps was happy and grateful appearing, the Serb, however, not only did NOT look happy (his smile was so VERY forced), but his people lodged an official protest and made the judges take a look at the replay to see if the right call was made.

Well, once the judges announced that they agreed with the computer sensor, this guy looked even LESS happy! His smile became so wooden, I thought he wasn't even going to accept the Silver and just storm off stage! WTF?!?! He lost, quit trying to lessen the victory by Phelps and just congratulate and move the heck on.

Tell me I wasn't the ONLY person that saw this event. Aside from that Men's volleyball team, I believe it was the Swiss team that was made up of two brothers that were OBVIOUSLY not on speaking terms with each other, that Serb was the WORST attitude for an Olympic athlete I have EVER seen!Blush I am EMBARRASSED for he and his country.
