Pill bottles

By: rkinne01 in Healthcare, Customer Service - on October 1st, 2008

I hate these kid proof bottles! They can be a bear to open sometimes especially if you have wet hands. I can understand those of you who have young children wanting to have this type of bottle at home but the rest of us don't need it.

I also think the pharmacies should take into account thier customers needs when dispensing prescriptions. Child proof bottles are not senior or handicapped friendly. People with limited motor function or arthritis cannot open these bottles, the pharmacies need to take this into account and offer better solutions. Hell I am normal and have trouble getting the caps off sometimes. I've often wondered how many people have died becuase they could not get the medicine they needed?

Morons

By: rkinne01 in Health, Healthcare - on September 11th, 2008

I work for a call center, as you may know, I find so many people just plain……simple.

I get a call from a woman who had a filling put in her tooth today and is still in pain. In order to dispatch a call to a Dr I have to ask for the name of the doctor who did the work.  I asked this lady for the name, SHE DIDN'T know!

How in the heck do you let someone drill holes into your body and not ask thier name? I just don't get how people can be so casual when it comes to thier health, but will spend hours agonizing over what plasma screen TV to buy.  Personally no one touches me till I've seen thier medical degree and I'm sure as hell not letting them touch me till I get a name!  Here's hoping this twit inhales a little too much laughing gas next time!

By: WalterTH3rd in In the News, Lawyers, Health, Healthcare - on August 26th, 2008

It was about some 'new' drug that is being recalled. That part I understand, but the WORDING in the end said, and I am NOT kidding, 'If YOU or someone you know has DIED, give us a call as you MAY be entitled to money.'

So, am I to understand that IF I DIED from said drug, I could be PAID!?!?!?! And How would I get said compensation? Would the money be BURIED with me?Furious Wasn't ANYONE PROOFREADING this copy?

Government efficiency and you all want Government Healthcare.

By: Mad Vulcan in People Who Are..., Healthcare - on July 28th, 2008

I was talking to my cousin who works at a hospital as an accountant and something that I did not know was this.

If person goes in for an operation under Medicare for a Gall Bladder operation and they find a hernia they cannot operate on the hernia. If they do they eat it. They have to finish the operation then get authorization for the hernia and operate again costing tax payers twice as much then just a about a fourth of the amount more then if they operated on it right then and there.

He was telling me under private insurance they can operate on the Hernia and save them money. Another government abuse with out tax money.

That was just one example he gave me but he says if they find anything else while operating they have to get authorization to work on it. They cannot work on it while they have the patient already opened.

it’s ok, it’s not ok…

By: timmar68 in Health, Healthcare, Food - on July 15th, 2008

"Drink 8-8oz. glasses of water a day".

"Only eat certain kinds of fish (and a certain amount) because of mercury".

"Soy is good for you".

What do these sentences have in common?

These are what health officials have told us. Now they are saying they aren't true. They even changed the food pyramid! Make up your minds! "I'm so confused" :::Vinnie Barbarino voice::: Glurps

I spoke to my doctor about that and he told me bodies aren't interchangeable so work we with my needs, but STILL…

At least I can have good ol' eggs again.

What difference does her weight make? Studies show that slim people aren't always the most healthy people and in fact some overweight people maybe more healthy than slimmer people.

I am diabetic and worry about something like this happening to me! My medication, testing supplies (meter, strips, lancets), A1C testing, and other blood work is expensive but essential to my well being. I have to have all of those things to ensure good health, its horrifies me to think I could be denied coverage if I were to switch employment; at least with a universal health care I'd always be covered!

Doctor’s Offices Not Listening

By: Madaboutmesses in People Who Are..., Health, Healthcare - on December 3rd, 2007

Bubba walked into a doctor's office and the receptionist asked him what he had.
Bubba said: "Shingles." So she wrote down his name, address, medical insurance
number and told him to have a seat.

Fifteen minutes later a nurse's aide came out and asked Bubba what he had.
Bubba said, "Shingles." So she wrote down his height, weight, a complete medical
history and told Bubba to wait in the examining room.

A half hour later a nurse came in and asked Bubba what he had. Bubba said,
"Shingles." So the nurse gave Bubba a blood test, a blood pressure test, an
electrocardiogram, and told Bubba to take off all his clothes and wait for the doctor.

An hour later the doctor came in and found Bubba sitting patiently in the nude and
asked Bubba what he had. Bubba said, "Shingles."

The doctor asked, "Where?”

Bubba said, "Outside on the truck. Where do you want me to unload ‘em? "

Peoples obsession with bacteria & germs

By: jericho777 in People Who Are..., Parenting, Health, Life, Health, Healthcare, Stupid, Food - on November 21st, 2007

Not too long ago I saw a mother, although well intentioned, forbid her child to enter the water, even though the E.coli levels were in a descent range. I didn’t think much of it, but just a few days ago, a friend flipped out when a housefly landed on him, stating that it carried with it more than a million bacteria. Rather than trying to explain to a monkey (sorry buddy, but I never really liked you to begin with), how things really work, I decided to dedicate this rant to it.

I used to know a bit about bacteria, as with many useless subjects a writer sometimes finds himself immersed in.

Despite Lysols claim, not all bacteria are toxic, pathogenic and caustic. As with all things, some are good and some are Christians… I mean evil… I mean bad. Now if you throw ca-ca at your friend in a friendly poo-poo fight (don’t ask), that’s bad E.coli.

A fetus is born completely sterile. But immediately acquires all kinds of bacteria, which then live symbiotically with the child until its death. They help it produce vitamins, break down some garbage, and even maintain the atmosphere it needs. Now here comes the biggest misconception. These good bacteria are only found in places in our bodies directly exposed to the environment, like our intestines and respiratory tracts. Ever noticed how animals who are born and raised "germ free", must be kept in a sterile environment, and need lots of vitamin supplements to stay alive. This is because they develop thin intestinal walls, weak hearts and a bad attitude.

Bacteria are old school, being single celled. Were talking billions of years old, sorry creationists, and yes I know this is all the Devil’s trickery. They are responsible for shaping and even maintaining atmospheric oxygen that allows complex life to develop.

Soon, some of them took up residence in other cells, which allowed life to evolve into more complex forms. So they aren’t just part of what you are, but they literally are what you are. You think you own your body, think again. You’re merely renting a small room, and the landlord will evict your sorry ignorant butt if you don’t maintain the place properly.

Ever hear of photosynthesis. Or what about that water bacteria also produces much of the oxygen we breathe. Bacteria are why things decay and finally become nutrients. It promotes faster and healthier growth in a child, who just happen to have more immunity to bad bacteria than all of us to begin with. It even reduces all noxious odors like your most people’s stinky opinions on the matter.

And now onto the famous, dreaded, fundamentalistic (sorry, wrong rant) E.coli.

E. coli within our intestines is necessary for us to develop and operate properly and to remain healthy. It, as well as similar bacteria, makes vitamins so that we can absorb them. And are pretty much responsible for our source of Vitamin K and B-complex.

Take it from a guy who frequently swims at the beach, and isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty. And must admit, enjoy raw meat, being fish or beef, and not that wimpy little sticky rice sushi either. Now get this. I have never been sick! And have never once felt sleepy in the afternoon, except when in school.

Ever notice how unsanitary Chinatown food markets or restaurants can be? Canadians can get poisoned just walking down Somerset, or watching a subtitled movie. So why don’t they get sick from their 2-day exposed chickens? Well it’s because they’re super evolved androids from outer space bent on turning the world into mahjong pieces.

I once saw a 4-year-old Eskimo boy, eat a huge piece of frozen seal during a hunt. Now ask a physician or a nutritionist about that and watch them squirm.

Don’t depend on those in power to dictate what is good or bad. News flash: they’re just as susceptible to wrong opinions as everyone else. Even a physician’s whole basis for being is due to his education, and I think we all know how easily corrupted education can be. Want an example on that, just examine your opinion formulated from what you learned in history class or see in movies. What’s your opinion on the Civil war, Columbus, 911, Pearl harbor, Communism, Thanksgiving, white bread vs. brown bread.

So next time you insist on cooking everything you eat, or carrying around that alcohol that claims to kill 99.9% of all germs and bacteria, consider this.

Still don’t believe me? Try it first, then your opinion will count, and not just something you once read in passing.

With the great advancements in global communications, and the great wealth of knowledge that is the Internet, we can evolve at 100 times the speed, or lose everything because of false opinions and such an easily compromised set of principles. We now hold a greater responsibility than ever before. We are responsible for knowledge itself. Without first developing the skills to fully comprehend and filter this vast expanse of information, the Internet may be the downfall of us yet.

Why are we here with as many doctors as we have?

By: WalterTH3rd in Health, Healthcare, Hospitals - on November 10th, 2007

Of course, I KNOW the answer, beause BLACKS in this country ALWAYS gets the short end of the stick! However, as DISGUSTING that this story is, I am sure SOMEONE here will blame Bush for this, regardless of the FACT that these numbers they are speaking of have DROPPED CONSIDERABLY since 1960 and are at their LOWEST!!! That said, however; the US should NOT be where it is on this list!!!!

Call Center Peeves

By: rkinne01 in People Who Are..., Bossy, Health, Healthcare, Hospitals, Customer Service, Stupid, Rude - on November 8th, 2007

This has been posted before but I NEED to vent…I can't stand people who will not listen!

At work we clearly identify ourself when pick up a call "Dr Smith's office how may I help you?"   The customer replies: "Is this Dr. Smith's Ofc"   AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH thats what I just said.

We have a recording letting people know our business hours and yet people will still call to ask our hours!

We'll let a customer know Mike is gone for the day yet a customer will still ask if they can speak to him! Grrrrrrrrr.

People will often call in after hours for medication, the office policy is that only rx's that our major emergencies (ie. insulin or heart medications) can be called out. We explain this over and over and they still don't get it or they'll try to convince us that Vicodin is an emergency RX.  DR's won't do afterhours pain pills for insurance liability reasons.

I wanna kill the ones that will call every five minutes to talk to the Dr's. Aghh, I would love to tell these people that the world doesn't revolve around thier own bulbous ass.

I especially hate nurses that will talk down to me or the rest of the staff. They act as though they're better than we are!  Well guess what Nasty Francine, you're ONLY a nurse so stick your attitude up your rear end and disappear!

I hate when women calls me honey, baby, sweetheart, or some other term of affection! If I called them by any of those terms they would demand my nuts in a jar!

Ok thats about it, people are irratating the hell outta me today!  I feel a little better.

Will Government healtcare turn us into slaves?

By: Mad Vulcan in People Who Are..., Politics/Politicians, Healthcare - on October 31st, 2007

Ok I am about to step in it real deep. I mean majorily deep. Before anyone has a knee jerk reaction read what I wrote take a minute and think about it before you respond.

We have been talking about healthcare for all. I have a question if we have healthcare for all and it does not stop there we start giving up 50 to 60 percent of our paychecks for this wonderfull healthcare we are promised do we not start to become slaves to the government. When will it stop after health care? Cars homes will the government start providing for us like the slave owners used to provide for the slaves? Do we inturn becomes slaves to our own government? I know this is a touchy subject however slave owners did provide healthcare, lodging, transportion all the basic needs of life to live. I know some of you are going to say they whipped the slaves. While this was true in some instences not all they were very well taken care however they were still slaves. I do find slavery appaling and I fear we are going to be owned by the President, Senate and Congress if we keep going down this road that government should do everything for us.

Just a thought.

this is some bs

By: snowkat1995 in People Who Are..., Health, Healthcare, Stupid - on September 27th, 2007

Ok now i have been waiting for three days to find out if I broke my foot when I tripped over a baby gate on saturday.  It is still dark purple and hurts and I can't move the little toe still.  The dumb nurse practitioner grabbed the almost black toe and moved it and asked me if it hurt.  No b**** it don't hurt.  I just thought I would take an hour out of my work day for no reason.   She sent me for xray telling me that I should hear something by the next day.  Here it is thursday and I haven't heard a thing.  She gave me motrin and said have a nice day.  Motrin isn't even touching the pain.  Advil is working good.  So here I sit at work with a numb foot (i said advil was working) and no clue if i broke it or not and no one can give me an answer.  GRRRRRRRRRRRR!  (say something about my grrrr! and I will unleash my pain onto you!)

Not bringing anything to the table financially…

By: MNolen in Work Peeves, OT: Not Necessarily a Pet Peeve, Health, Healthcare, Hospitals, Insurance - on August 5th, 2007

I have always been the type of person who HAS to work. I have always had a job, and feel useless if I don’t. Well, since quiting the post office in January, I have started to feel like I am not doing anything for my family financially, and this feeling sucks. Yeah, I cook, clean, watch the kids, blah blah blah, but I don’t make any money! I guess I am fortunate enough to not have to work, but even if I worked outside of the house, I would be needing to pull in some mad cash to cover the babysitting. My oldest is 4 with a dec. b-day, so she can’t start school untill next year, so I would have to have all three in day care for a year….EXPENSIVE!

Anyway, I have been researching different things to do from home, and half of them seem to be a scam….makes you wonder…but I think I finally found something to do, that I can do from home. Medical Transcriptionist. I have done research after google searches and finally it boiled down to 2 on-line schools… I have picked one out, figured the cost, and it only takes a year to complete. MT’s make anywhere from $24K for part tiome and itgoes up from there. And I can sit at home on my computer and do this, with my kids there, so it sounds pretty good.

Has anyone done this, or know anyone who has? My friend has, but she went to a school in Austin, and I won’t be able to find a babysitter to go to school with Hubby working shift work. Last time I tried school, I had to drop out with less than a month left in the semester, cause I had no sitter. That is why the on-line courses sound good. I want to get another person’s opinion on this……

Peeve re: Working with the handicapped

By: rkinne01 in Healthcare - on July 27th, 2007

I occasionally work with handicapped people, helping them to become more independant. I take individuals out into the communites and train them to do various things like laundry, grocery shopping, and working on social skills; this is a part time job for me and is not my main job.

I am currently working with a man in a wheelchair who’s family had waited on him hand and foot for his whole life. The siblings have moved away and his parents are getting to the age where they’ll not be able to care for him much longer.

My pet peeve is thoughtless people who interfere with my job!  A prime example: We had gone to the grocery store on an outing for training on shopping, we’re going up and down the aisles I am simply observing as he takes what he needs from the shelf, but this lady keeps getting the items for him. She cops a major attitude with me saying that I am being cruel by not helping him! I have to take this lady to the end of the aisle and explain what I am doing (as if its any of her business).  It may seem unkind or even harsh to work like this, but its even worse to not do it, when this man is sent to live in his own apartment or a group home he’ll have to be able to do these things for himself. Training him now will lessen the trauma when he is suddenly on his own and may also extend his stay at home with his family.

If you see someone disabled in a store ask 1st if they need help, just don’t assume they do! A care giver being strict or firm with thier charge is not being cruel, they are being practical and following training.  Don’t get me wrong if you see someone being abusive to a handicapped person then by all means intervene. Just keep in mind that working with these people is not easy but it is rewarding job, it feels good seeing people live better lives through my effort. If anyone in here is looking for a job, there is very little training required and the pay is not bad, you get as many hours as you want, and you more or less get to set your own schedule.

Health Care

By: rkinne01 in People Who Are..., Health, Healthcare, Hospitals, Insurance - on July 24th, 2007

The fact of the matter is that there are millions of people in this country who have no form of health care coverage at all.  Employers are increasingly eliminating health insurance or heavily reducing it, leaving employees with no recourse.  The price of health care is enough to send most people into major debt, some medical tests can now cost thousands of dollars to run. We send millions of dollars overseas to help other countries but can’t find a viable way to provide affordable health care for our own citizens? Insanity.

If you don’t think healthcare is a serious issue in this country, lets take a look at Diabetes. There are an estimated 30 million people in this country known to have Diabetes, many of them uninsured. Diabetics have a high risk of heart disease, kidney disease, and limb amputation; medical intervention can eliminate or reduce chances of diseases developing. We would save millions of lives and billions of dollars by having affordable health care for these people to make sure that they get the proper care to make sure they never have to lose a limb.  Do you know how much a wheel chair or an artifical arm  costs?   When these people can no longer support themselves guess what going to happen?  They’ll be put on SSI and Medicade which will cost us alot more later then it would to provide basic care now.  Thats just Diabetes, I’m not even factoring in AIDS, cancer, the aging baby boomers, etc..

Lazy SOB’s

By: rkinne01 in People Who Are..., Healthcare - on July 24th, 2007

When did ADD/ADHD become an excuse to not work? We seem to be getting more and more people calling asking for medical letters to get SSI.  I know mentally retarded people (yeah I said retarded) who have no problem holding a job, if they can overcome thier disability than you sure as hell can do the same! Get off your lazy ass and get a job; flip burgers at Wendy’s, bag groceries, or work at a car wash.  SSI was meant for people who are physically unable to work or for people with severe mental defects, not for lazy SOB’s.
