Don’t Take Your Electronics to Canada

By: rkinne01 in People Who Are..., Movies, Television, In the News, Entertainment, Music, Laws, Computer, Mac, PC - on August 6th, 2008

A new law will soon go into affect in Canada designed to curb piracy, a good thing right?  Not so fast!  This law gives customs the right to seize any electronic device that may contain any kind data on it. All a customs officer has to do is have even the slightest inkling that it may contain anything illegal.

I can tell you from living right on the border that dealing with customs on either side of the border can already be a major hassle. If a customs officer takes a disliking to you he can make life difficult for you. They can literally tear your car apart and are not required to put it back together, if they rip up your seats looking for drugs they don't have to fix them. You could also be taken into custody, strip searched, cavity searched, or X-rayed. People have even handcuffed and guns in their faces.

So if you're planning on going to Canada anytime soon you may wanna leave the laptop, I-Pod, or Mixed Cd's/Dvd's at home. The real kicker here is that they can hold the items for as long as they like, even if its proven nothing illegal was found.

I heard about all this on the radio I'll look for a printed article then post it here whan I can.  We go to Canada often but when this law takes effect we'll be going a lot less often.

******update******

Damn I missed some of the radio news, according to that link it is just not Canada, but the USA and other countries too! Well slap me and call me surprised at this one!

No seriously, WTF?!?!?!

By: WalterTH3rd in People Who Are..., Loud, Entertainment, Music - on July 22nd, 2008

I was at a Long's Drugs last night with my wife, she went in to pick up her prescriptions when I hear this LOUD (and deep) music. Still, uncaring, I just listened to what was playing as it got closer, the bass nearly shaking my windshield out of the car (still don't get how it is possible to sit in a car with music THAT loud!) when I started to 'recognize' the lyrics.

While I can't tell you WHO it was, I CAN tell you it was the most heinous GANGTA RAP I have heard since the 90s! The lyrics was all about killing and raping and etc. But what really caught my ears was how violent the rapper was towards the White Race and how he wanted a bullet for each and every last one of 'dem white _itches and hos'.

Alright, NOW I am intrigued, there aren't many Blacks where I live and even LESS gang related ones (mostly Mexican Gangs and their music, when they listen to rap, is NOT quite the style I was listening too.). So I easily turned to look. Know what I saw pulling into the lot?

A 2008 BMW (silver and gray) with five WHITE kids (no really, they looked about 17-20, but I am 'old' maybe they were in their 20s), all dressed fairly nice for that age group, no baggy pants on the boys, no hoodies, no NOTHING not 'normal' (well, to ME anyway, but again, I am 'old').

So, let me ask this 'simple' question - just how 'hard' were these kids? IF I decided I wanted to TAKE their car, would they have tried to stop me? Would they have even tried to TELL me not to take their car? Have they ever even seen the inside of a police car from the BACK seat? What, in their backgrounds, might have given them the slightest idea of what this rapper was talking about, and did they realize what they were listening was AGAINST them?

I didn't mind the music, it had a good beat and melody, but the words I could have done without. But I was thinking, do people NOT listen to the LYRICS any more? OR, do people just get what they think is good and buy it without looking into what they are buying? Parents, do YOU know what this is all about? I remember (alright, now I am gonna sound old again) when I was their age, the music I listened to I KNEW WHAT THE WORDS SAID AND MEANT!) I heard, once, some Death Metal back then, but, even though I liked the music portion, I was NOT into listening to White Supremest lyrics so I NEVER bought the album! I took that out of my music collection. I did the same when I listened to the lyrics of a few rappers I liked the music to but didn't care for the lyrics. But I would NEVER play that music, with those lyrics in public at that (or any other) volume! It made no sense to me, does it to any of you? No really, I wanna know, perhaps I just don't get it!Annoyed

BTW, I do the same with movies and TV, I also have been known to NOT watch ACTORS (and actresses) that I didn't care for if they tended towards movies I didn't care for, or said something in public I didn't agree with. But that is how I am. Tongue out

By: WalterTH3rd in OT: Not Necessarily a Pet Peeve, Entertainment, Music - on June 28th, 2008

Alright, come clean, who still has some 8-tack tapes or the players for said tapes??? And which albums do you have? Me, Sam Cooke (Greatest Hits), A Star is Born soundtrack (the one w/ Streisand ), and the other I can't read as the cover was peeled off when I was a kid (probably by myself, because I was notorious for stuff like that).

Come on, I expect to be awed. Conan, I am sure you DON'T have an 8-track, but since you admitted to Mr. Roboto, perhaps you may.

A CD Peeve!

By: rkinne01 in Music - on March 22nd, 2008

Whats up with music artists putting "interludes" all through their cd's?  Janet Jackson is well known to do this and in my opinion it just slows down the flow of the whole album!  This is another reason why  people choose to download from the net rather than buying cd's.  RIAA cut the fat and give us the good stuff and maybe we'd buy again!

I’m Ticked Off

By: rkinne01 in Movies, Television, Gay, Entertainment, Music, Politics/Politicians, Left, Right, War in Iraq, Terrorism, Politicians, Laws, Life, Commercials - on March 11th, 2008

We need to get our Priorities Straight…..

Millions of families are losing their homes but instead of giving them a helping hand we're building homes for someone in a country that doesn't even like us.

Soldiers are coming home from the wars injured and yet we can't provide them adequte care. Is it any wonder that recruiters are not filling their enlistment qoutas?

We tell our gay citizens that they can't marry because marriage is sacred, all the while the divorce rate is 50%. Sacred indeed! Call me what you will, but if marriage is so scared how come so many are so quick to divorce? Apparently 50% of the population must have a different understanding of the word sacred than I do.

We've got terrorists whining that we're violating their civil rights but then behead someone on live TV. STOP BEING A TERRORIST AND MAYBE YOU WOULDN'T BE TORTURED! Oh and by the way you're not American citizens, you don't deserve the rights our forefathers fought so hard to bring us! Do us a favor, take that machette you use to behead others, place the sharp edge along your throat, and fall! Your 40 virgins are waiting for you, and they're honry!

This to those who think that the terrorists should have rights, tell it to the Pearl family or to any other family who's loved ones were butchered by these freaks. Just think someday it could be your baby girl on TV minus her head.

We're giving illegal immigrants access to Social Security without them having put one red cent into it, but someone who has paid into it is rejected? I wish I could opt out and invest the money for myself, but I'm sure the government would find a way to punish us for it…..wait they already do with taxes.

Why can't we make these jerk offs in Washington pass a bill saying they can't hide one bill in another? Example: You can't sneak in a proposal for a bridge to nowhere with a bill about highway improvement. Enough of the back door politics.

To consevatives, liberals, republicans, and democarts: Stay the hell outta my home and business! I can decide my own my morals, I don't want a group of people who aren't morally correct themselves telling me what to do. My regards to whatever hooker you've picked up for tonight Mr. Congressman, enjoy!

I'm tired of you lazy parents who think it should be the job of the government to censor whatever it is you don't like on TV, on the radio, or on the internet! How about doing it yourself? Turn on the VChip on the TV, take the TV or computer outta their bedroom, and be aware of the ratings on games/movies/DVD's. If you don't want your kids watching shows like Dexter then change the channel to the Disney channel. Don't like Howard Stern? Turn the radio off! Take few minutes to learn about setting up filters to prevent the kids from surfing porn, its easy. Not everything is meant for childrens eyes, take some responsibility for your kids or tick off the Pope by using birth control.

Tell Me That Special Interests Don’t Own Washington…

By: rkinne01 in Entertainment, Music, Politics/Politicians, Laws - on March 8th, 2008

http:// www.pcworld.com/article/id,143194-c,copyright/article.html#

This scares the hell outta me!  Have you ever made a mix tape or CD? Under this law you could be sued for thousands of dollars for making your own CD's. The law also allows law enforcement to seize your pc or other copying equipment even if someone else used it without your consent.

This is clearly legislation that is being pushed through by lobbists. With our rights to the media purchased stripped away we'll be forced into buying or seeing whatever the show they want you to see. I also feel this law is a waste of time since most piracy occurs outside our borders (Russia, China, India, etc).

Sheryl Crow's new CD Detours is pretty good (get it on I-Tunes and you'll get bounus tracks).  My favorite song is Love is Free, its about the aftermath of the New Orleans flood.  I love this woman, her political views often clash with mine, but her music is always good with fantastic song writing.  Yeah, yeah I know her music is "chick music" but still good.

By: MNolen in Movies, Television, In the News, Hollywood Stars, Music, Children, Motherhood/Moms - on January 29th, 2008

It comes to theaters on Friday to Austin. They already have tickets on sale for $15 a person, for a freggin movie. It is mostly already sold out! This sucks, I couldn't find tickets for the actual concert, and now even the MOVIE is sold out! Are you freakin kiddin me?? I am the proud mother of 2 Hannah Fanatics, and the neighbor of another. I told the mom next door, that if I could get tickets, I would take her daughter with us. Now it seems that I won't be going…..I might just take the trip to see if their are scalpers for that as well! I wouldn't doubt it for a minute!

I know most of you have older kids, but have you heard anything on how long it will be showing?? I would imagine or HOPE that it stays in theaters for a while, since they will no doubt be raking in ALOT of money for the theater….

DAMN! I WANT 5 TICKETS!!!!! My girls would be so excited, and no doubt dressed in their Hannah Montana shirts, skirts, belts, boots, wigs, and hair extentions! Good LORD! Hannah is ruling their life(and my shopping bag)!

Hannah Montana caught using body double

NEW YORK - It was ever so brief, but the use of a body double by Miley Cyrus on her best-selling "Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus 'Best of Both Worlds'" tour is creating plenty of buzz.

A video posted on YouTube shows the 15-year-old entertainer as "Hannah" dancing onstage with a group of dancers and the Jonas Brothers, also on the tour. During the song, someone ushers her offstage via a trap door. Immediately, another girl dressed like the character "Hannah" in the same pink trench coat with blonde hair covering her faces dances around, runs up the stage set, and then quickly leaves.

While the double is holding a microphone for her less than a minute, the girl motions like she is singing. However, a rep for Miley said the switch was only for costume purposes.

"To help speed the transition from Hannah to Miley, there is a production element during the performance of 'We Got the Party' incorporating a body double for Miley," according to statement Friday from the public relations firm PMK.

"After Hannah has completed the featured verse on the duet with the Jonas Brothers, a body double appears approximately one to two minutes prior to the end of the song in order to allow Miley to remove the Hannah wig and costume and transform into Miley for her solo set. Other than during this very brief transitional moment in the show, Miley performs live during the entirety of both the Hannah and Miley segments of the concert."

Miley's "Hannah Montana" tour is one of the nation's hottest tours, selling out within minutes when tickets went on sale last fall. Some people have been reselling tickets for thousands of dollars. Miley has released two albums under the "Hannah Montana" brand, both of which have sold more than two million copies.

The "Hannah Montana" is an offshoot of the Walt Disney Co. TV show.

Cops: Intoxicated Spears hands over kids

By PETER PRENGAMAN, Associated Press Writer 4 minutes ago

LOS ANGELES - Police were called to Britney Spears' home Thursday night in a custodial dispute that lasted nearly three hours before an intoxicated Spears reportedly turned over her children to ex-husband Kevin Federline.

Officers were called to the home around 8 p.m., and the 26-year-old singer turned over the children around 10:50 p.m., Officer Jason Lee, a police spokesman, told City News Service.

Aerial footage from KTLA-TV showed Spears being lifted in a gurney into an ambulance. It was unclear where she was being taken.

Lee said Spears was under the influence of an unknown substance, and no injuries were reported.

The incident involved a family dispute that police worked to resolve "peacefully by court order," he said.

An Associated Press photographer outside the gated community that includes Spears' house saw six police cars, an ambulance and a fire truck enter around 10:30 p.m. A dispatcher with the fire department referred calls to the police department.

Spears and Federline are fighting over custody of their sons, 2-year-old Sean Preston and 1-year-old Jayden James.

Federline, 29, has temporary custody of the children because Spears, who has limited visitation rights, has defied court orders. The two were married in October 2004 and divorced in July.

Calls to attorneys for Federline and Spears were not immediately returned.

Earlier Thursday, the singer appeared for a deposition in the custody dispute.

She was deposed for just 14 minutes, attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan told reporters after she left.

Spears called in sick for a Dec. 12 court-ordered deposition, but was photographed that day driving with a friend. She also didn't show up for a session Wednesday, Kaplan said.

Spears' attorneys from the firm Trope and Trope on Wednesday filed a court motion asking to be relieved due to a "breakdown" in communication with their client.

Kaplan said Spears' attorneys were present for what became a very abbreviated session.

"The deposition proceeding did go forward today. It was scheduled for 9:45 to 11:45," Kaplan said. "However, it wasn't able to commence until 11:32."

"You can imagine in 14 minutes there's not a lot of time to develop questions," he said.

Kaplan said another deposition would be scheduled.
