Abstinence Doesn’t Work

By: rkinne01 in People Who Are..., Bossy, Sex, Gay, Lesbian, General, Religion - on December 29th, 2008

http://news.yahoo.com/s/hsn/20081229/hl_hsn/manyteensdontkeepvirginitypledg es

I have always thought that teaching only abstinence was stupid and now I have proof.  Abstinence didn't work in 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, or the 90's and will not work now. We're wired to have sex, hitting puberty is simply the beginning of human sexuality, a fact that can't be denied.  A vast majority of our youth are going to be sexually active, telling them to just say no just doesn't cut it.

We have to give kids information to protect them from STD's, pregnancy, and from thier own misconceptions.  I am not saying that we shouldn't tell kids to wait for sex, but to just give them that facts to protect themselves if they DO choose to get laid.

The churches need to raid the collection plates and buy themselves a clue, substaining from sex just isn't realistic. The Pope and the Catholic Church need to pull thier collective heads out of the sand, people are dying because of your outdated teachings. People in Africa are dying by the MILLIONS because of AIDS, and the Pope is still telling them to not use condoms. I wonder how many deaths he is responsible for, it boggles the mind.

Here’s an ‘idea’ . . .

By: WalterTH3rd in In the News, Sex, General, Politics/Politicians, Dating, Laws, Love, Life - on May 29th, 2008

Over in in California there has been movement to legalize same sex marriages. And with it a move to place (once again) legalizing it (or not) on this November's ballot. Here are a few thoughts from MY mind and beliefs -

While I personally am not against same sex 'marriages, we already have that, it is called 'Domestic Partnerships. All the same tax breaks and divorce rights without the title 'Married', but let us say this does pass, after all the main argument I have heard/read is that since the parties are consenting adults, what is the harm? I agree, if it isn't hurting me or isn't directly effecting ME, why should I  care? I won't, for the purposes of this 'argument' bring religion into it, just stick with the laws of the land and the opinions I have heard/read.

So, as consenting adults, two people of the same sex SHOULD be allowed to marry! After all, it is between adults, right? So, while we are at it, if someone has three or FORTY women that are all adults and all want to marry one man, that should also be allowed as well. It isn't hurting anyone else, right? What about two closely (brother and sister) decide they are really in love with each other, once they reach 18, they too should be allowed to marry, right? What about if the parents child, once that age of consent is reached, decides to marry their parent, it is between adults, right, no harm no foul, as the saying goes.

Now, let's take that a little further, since this country 'loves' to allow foreign cultures to 'dictate' what is right and not in this country, since some cultures allow the very young to marry, why not here? Pretty sure I saw a documentary about a young woman in Afghanistan that was married off at the ripe old age of 11 to a man old enough to be her great grand father, and she was just one of MANY wives! Should we start that practice here as well?

Where do we draw the line? I read somewhere that some of the Great Apes (Chimps, Baboons, Gorilla's etc) have the same capacity of love that humans do, what if someone fell in love with a Chimpanzee? Would they be allowed marriage rights if they could 'prove' the love went both ways? Where do we draw the line, and do we even have the right to DRAW that line?

As I said before, I won't bring religion into my argument, because, as you can read, I don't think I needed to. However, feel free to fire that first shot, just remember; I did not! I could have, perhaps I should have, but I did not.

What are YOUR thoughts?

This May Ruffle Your Feathers

By: rkinne01 in In the News, Sex, Gay, Lesbian, General, Politics/Politicians, Dating, Boyfriends, Girlfriends, Religion, Fatherhood/Dads - on May 25th, 2008

I cannot believe Abstinence is taught in the schools today instead sex education. Abstinence is a complete and total failure, it didn't work in the past and won't now. I don't have a problem with teaching the kids that abstaining is the best option but sex ed should be taught as well. I find it amusing that its the baby Boomers who are preaching this failed policy, hypocrites.

I think that there is so much more mis-information than ever out there in regards to sex. Our kids need to be informed properly so that don't end up with a pregnancy or STD statistic. They should be taught how conception occurs and what steps can be taken to reduce exposure to diseases like AIDS or herpes.

They should also be taught the proper use of condoms, contraception, and how there anatomy should used.  Pregnancy prevention products are useless if not used properly (condoms can rip if not used correctly and can be uncomfortable).

Girls should be taught proper feminie hygenie, how to examine breasts for lumps, and checking the vaginal area for health concerns.  Boys should be taught to check for testicular cancer and other problems.

I know some of you are going to say that its the parents responsibility to explain "the birds and bees" to thier kids but the fact is that they're not doing it.  Today's parents are both working to put food on the table without enough time to have discussions about sex with the kids.

Did you know that 1 out every 4 women will raped at some point (not sure what it is for men)? Would your daughter or son know what to do if they were assaulted? I think this something that teens should be taught, what to do or not do if they a raped. Parents should have this discussion with their kids as well, especially girls.

Kids today think that oral sex is not sex at all and offers no risk, certian sexual positions won't lead to pregnancy, that "pulling out" in time gaurantees safe sex, etc… If there is no sex ed how will any of these myths be dispelled? I highly doubt any teen is going to ask mom and dad about them and if they will the parents have all the right answer?

In closing, I just think that the benefits of sex education far outweight the risks. Solely teaching abstinence is just folly and ineffective.

I want some too!!

By: mcladya65 in Sex, General - on March 19th, 2008

What is it with the men in today's society?  Looks like the majority of every "breeder" is hitting on the women folk from time to time except for me.  What's wrong with this picture?  I go to night clubs with my girl co-workers, I go shopping or cruising by myself from time to time, and not one guy (good looking & a good job PLEASE!!) wants to take a hit on me.  GRRR!  After being separated from my idiot jerk of a husband (and working on my divorce case), I need some loving too, dang it!!  Hell, I want to scream like a banshee within a 50 mile radius like every other woman in the US and abroad.  And sorry guys, I am not into the online dating services anymore due to fact that THEY DO NOT WORK!!!  And going to church to find a guy ain't worth it either.  Most of them are too old to shake a tail feather….that's if they have one back there.  I'm tired of being lonely but hell, I'm tired of being passed over to some fake version of Paris Hilton.  Give me a break!!

something to share

I was watching the Today show just now and I heard about this site to stop unwanted catalogs. so here's my "green" tip…

www.catalogchoice.org

I registered and all you need are the customer numbers on the backs of the catalogs and you can suggest some that aren't on their list and it takes about 10 weeks until it's done.

**for some insane reason, the link won't work to click on, so just paste it to go there.

it’s my turn…again

By: Dawn in Driving / Traffic, General, Life, Automobile - on January 15th, 2008

OK, so I'm driving around doing my errands today and a few things started to bug me:

people who LEAVE their trash cans out ALL THE TIME!!  I mean, really, garbage isn't picked up EVERY DAY!!  Wed. and Sat. over here folks!!!  and then had the nerve to have the can out so far from the curb where you had to drive AROUND IT!!  one of those big cans with the flip top lid!!!

Next, people who don't close their car doors all the way…COME ON you GOTTA know it's still open, a light on the dashboard tells you!!!  I saw 2 people driving like this just these past 2 days.  They're just as bad as those people who forget to close their gas tank cover and drive around while their gas is evaporating!!!

people who DON'T straighten their wheels AFTER parking!!!  I hate that.  If I see any car like that, I WON'T park next to them cuz I can just imagine them racing out to leave and hitting my car cuz the wheels were turned!  my husb used to leave MY wheels like that until I nagged him enough about it!

I MAY add things to this list today if I remember something else!

By: Dawn in Uncategorized, OT: Not Necessarily a Pet Peeve, General, Life - on October 19th, 2007

Well, I couldn't sleep and so I started looking at the OLD posts from WAY back when and I didn't realize that it's been 6 months already since I came on here with ya'll! So let me share this little trip down memory lane:

remember Jazetopher? wonder if he's OK and what happened with him.

what about Paula and Calted2 and silentrascal? those were some wild and long posts they had along with Walter and TGIX!

Others who I don't see anymore are Idiaz, bhrebear, amarettoxo, boogerbillie, dancemaster (she can't get internet at work anymore) and CommonFrequency (he was funny)! and Spitfire had gone MIA too! I think CR1978 got married in the meantime (saw it on her myspace).

I like new friends but I miss the old ones too. just thought I'd share my early morning trip with you.

And if any of you MIA people happen to read this, give a shout out to us, we'd like to hear from you!!! Sorry if I missed anybody, I couldn't remember everyone!

I need a “Cahhr”, any “Idears”?

By: Dawn in Driving / Traffic, Shopping, OT: Not Necessarily a Pet Peeve, General - on October 8th, 2007

Seriously though, I need a car! I have to get one sooner than expected now cuz my A/C (the compressor) is broken and will cost about 500+ dollars to get fixed and the van just isn't worth it to put that much into it! So let me tell you what I'm looking for: I did want a GMC Yukon BUT now I'll have to settle for less. So I want something good on gas, of course, enough room for my 3 knuckleheads, NOT a car, but an SUV or truck and nothing over 25,000 bucks. We'll be putting about 10 grand down on it too.  Am I asking too much?

Oh, one more thing, NO Dodge or Fords please!

HELP ME!

guess what…

By: Dawn in Uncategorized, Shopping, General, Entertainment, Life, Health - on October 2nd, 2007

I have decided to try a different approach to weight loss. DON'T laugh, although I know you will, BUT I bought a video game! NOT just any video game, it's called "Dance Dance Revolution-Supernova 2"!!!!

You know the dancing game where you follow the steps coming across the screen? I got it for the PS2. A friend of my daughter's had it on when I picked my daughter up from her house after a slumber party this weekend and I tried it out! I was hot and sweaty after only ONE dance!! AND it was sooo fun! That's ALL I needed to convince me to buy it! I was told they also have a workout session on there too, I guess for people like me! I'm gonna hook it up tomorrow and see how it goes for me.

Size Does Matter! - revised

By: angry customer in People Who Are..., Sex, General, Fatherhood/Dads - on September 20th, 2007

One of my greatest peeves is the never ending issue of size. Myself, personally I have been a lucky one who has always known that size matters. But all the blustering about whether size does or does not matter, drives me nuts. I would be interested in what you all think of this new video that addresses this peeve, among others This is really funny! Enjoy and tell me what you think.

1. Only in America……can a pizza get to your house faster than an ambulance.

2. Only in America……are there handicap parking places in front of a skating rink.

3. Only in America……do drugstores make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.

4. Only in America……do people order double cheeseburgers, large fries, and a DIET coke.

5. Only in America……do banks leave both vault doors open and then chain the pens to the counters.

6. Only in America……do we use answering machines to screen calls and then have call waiting so we won’t miss a call from someone we didn’t want to talk to in the first place.

7. Only in America……do we buy hot dogs in packages of ten and buns in packages of eight.

8. Only in America……do we use the word ‘politics’ to describe the process so well: ‘Poli’ in Latin meaning ‘many’ and ‘tics’ meaning ‘bloodsucking creatures’

9. Only in America……do they have drive-up ATM’s with Braille lettering.

EVER WONDER

Why the sun lightens our hair, but darkens our skin?

Why women can’t put on mascara with their mouth closed?

Why don’t you ever see the headline “Psychic Wins Lottery”?

Why is “abbreviated” such a long word?

Why is it that doctors call what they do “practice”?

Why is lemon juice made with artificial flavor, and dishwashing liquid made with real lemons?

Why is the man who invests all your money called a broker?

Why is the time of day with the slowest traffic called rush hour?

Why isn’t there mouse-flavored cat food?

When dog food is new and improved tasting, who tests it?

Why didn’t Noah swat those two mosquitoes?

Why do they sterilize the needle for lethal injections?

You know that indestructible black box that is used on airplanes? Why don’t they make the whole plane out of that stuff??

Why don’t sheep shrink when it rains?

Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?

If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of progress?

If flying is so safe, why do they call the airport the terminal?

In case you needed further proof that the human race is doomed through stupidity, here are some actual label instructions on consumer goods:

On a Sears hairdryer: Do not use while sleeping. (that’s the only time I have to work on my hair).

On a bag of Fritos:! ..You could be a winner! No purchase necessary.
Details inside. (the shoplifter special?).

On a bar of Dial soap: “Directions: Use like regular soap.” (and that would be how???….).

On some Swanson frozen dinners: “Serving suggestion: Defrost.” (but, it’s “just” a suggestion).

On Tesco’s Tiramisu dessert (printed on bottom): “Do not turn upside down.” (well…duh, a bit late, huh)!

On Marks & Spencer Bread Pudding: “Product will be hot after heating.”
(…and you thought????…)

On packaging for a Rowenta iron: “Do not iron clothes on body.” (but wouldn’t this save me more time?)

On Boot’s Children Cough Medicine: “Do not drive a car or operate machinery after taking this medication.” (We could do a lot to reduce the rate of construction accidents if we could just get those 5-year-olds with head-colds off those forklifts.)

On Nytol Sleep Aid: “Warning: May cause drowsiness.” (and…I’m taking this because???….)

On a Japanese food processor: “Not to be used for the other use.” (now, somebody out there, help me on this. I’m a bit curious.)

On Sunsbury’s peanuts: “Warning: contains nuts.” (talk about a news
flash)

On an American Airlines packet of nuts: “Instructions: Open packet, eat nuts.”

On a child’s superman costume: “Wearing of this garment does not enable you to fly.” (I don’t blame the company. I blame the parents for this
one.)

On a Swedish chainsaw: “Do not attempt to stop chain with your hands or genitals.” (…was there a lot of this happening somewhere?)
