Winter Peeves
-Having to get the snow off my car!
-It snows then rains, snow is HEAVY after it soaks up the rain!
-"Black" Ice: Black ice is ice that you can't see on the ground, looks like the normal concrete. I think most winter based accidents are caused by black ice, you agree shaybabe?
-My dogs refuse to go out till we've shoveled them a path.
-People who drive recklessly in the snow.
-People with 4 wheel drive that think they're invincible.
-People who are dumb enough to walk at night in all white, which can make them hard to see.
-Snow glare! This is when the sun light glares off the snow, sunglasses are not just for summer!
-Stores that don't plow sidewalks and/or dirveways.
-Neighbors who use snowblowers at 4 o'clock in the morning.
-Having to clear snow off of the satellite dish.

Sign Language
What is with people? I went to lunch with a deaf relative today and discovered just how moronic people can be. I wasn't feeling well to begin with but this arse hole just set me off.
I'm not skilled at sign language but I do my best, so were enjoying our food and talking away. I keep seeing this "lady" mocking our signing, I ignored it when I first noticed(seen it before nothing new). She thought she was being amusing and kept it up. I finally had enough when I looked over again and saw her gesturing to her friend and laughing hysterically. I got up from the table to confront her.
I lied and told her she shouldn't be signing about her STD in public because thats nasty and rude. I also told her that eavesdropping on a conversation is rude and to keep her fat ass outta of our discussion. I closed the whole thing by telling her not to sign if she doesn't know what she's doing, it just makes the person doing it look like a horse's rear end.
I went back to my table after seeing this woman's face turn red with embrassment. I swear to god I often wonder where people get thier manners from? Thank god my family taught me better than that poster child for birth control was. Where were the condoms when she was conceived?

Fun names
Walter's post of new merger names reminded me of this-
In a place I once worked, we had a customer whose last name was Dickoff (no kidding). One day we were all talking and someone said, "Wouldn't it be funny if Ashton Kutcher had a sister. Let's call her Ashley. If she married Mr. Dickoff her name would be Ashley Kutcher Dickoff.
Just thought I'd share. ![]()

? about no smoking in a government building
Ok, all government buildings are now smoke free. You aren't supposed to smoke within 30 feet of a government building. So….my question is What about the White House? Is that considered a government building? What if the President or a member of his immediate family was a smoker? Would they have to go to a designated smoking area?
Don't know what made this question pop into my head but there it is now maybe it will get out of my head. (tee hee)

Special days in October….
October 9 — Leif Eriksson Day I thought this was a Sponge Bob only thing When the Vikings, a group of seafarers from what is now Norway, Denmark, and Sweden, ventured far out into the Atlantic Ocean under the leadership of the Norwegian Erik the Red, they found a new land and named it Greenland. When Erik's son, Leif, sailed west from Greenland shortly thereafter, he landed somewhere in the vicinity of what is now Newfoundland. Although Eriksson is not officially credited with discovering America, Congress has declared October 9 Leif Eriksson Day.
October 16 — Noah Webster's Birthday
Noah Webster,
America's first lexicographer, was born on October 16, 1758. We remember
Webster as the author of the first American dictionary, but he was also the
first authority to advocate American English. His American Spelling Book,
published in 1783 (and later known as Webster's Elementary Spelling Book),
was the first to Americanize the spelling of English words such as colour and
labour by dropping the u.
October 18 — St. Luke's Little Summer
St. Luke's Little
Summer is a period of summerlike days that occurs around October 18, named to
honor the saint's feast day. In olden days, St. Luke's Day did not
receive as much attention in the secular world as St. John's Day (June 24)
and Michaelmas (September 29), so to keep from being forgotten, St. Luke
presented us with some golden days to cherish before the coming of winter
— or so the story goes. Some folks call this Indian summer, but that
officially occurs between November 11 and November 20.
October 18 — Alaska Day
Alaska Day marks the anniversary of the
formal transfer of the Alaska Territory from Russia and the raising of the U.S.
flag at Sitka in 1867.

Open up in there!
Peeve Meister here.
My Pet Peeve for this week is packaging. Why can’t I open packages these days?
Have you tried to open a potato chip bag lately? A pack of office paper? A children’s toy? A pack of gum? Yesterday I almost killed myself with the wrong end of a pair of scissors trying to open a DVD package. Forget about opening a medicine package. Even removing that little sticker off of a piece of fresh fruit is a royal pain.
What’s happened here? I don’t remember it being so difficult – just to open stuff. If it wasn’t so frustrating, it would be impressive. Forget about vaults; banks should just store their money in the plastic used to wrap CD cases. Nobody would ever get to the money.
Do you have this problem? Or am I the only one? Tell us about your latest battle with the best technology the packaging industry has to offer. You could win free prizes – that we promise, will come in a box that’s very easy to open.
Peeve On!
The Peeve Meister
P.S. Congrats to sherrie507, our Rant-of-the-Week winner from last week. And good luck to all you Super Peevers this week. We'll be awarding another set of prizes for the best comment to this week's "Rant of the Week."

well, it’s raining and VERY windy here now.
and from the looks at the weather channel, it's some of the outer bands from IKE hitting us now. But it's not too bad, just really windy, like the rain is coming down sideways almost. and then it's like a light switch, on and off. it'll come down real hard for about 10 mins and then STOP, and then start up again. I feel for those who will REALLY feel it, it WON'T be pretty. I'm VERY thankful right now.
NESTLE, watch out GIRL!! it's gonna swing back your way!!

movie “An American Crime”…
I watched this movie not really understanding
what it was about, I just knew it was a true story. It was a good movie but
it has left me with a very bad/disturbed feeling that I just can not shake.
The crimes that this lady, her kids, and the kids they brought home did to this poor little girl. It wasn't graphic but I had to leave the room many times. The horror this little girl suffered. The only thing that made me feel a bit better is that the lady and her kids (the other ones as well) were tried and found guilty. I was surprised considering this happened 1966. If this little girl wouldn't have died who knows how long she would have had to suffer.
I am glad I watched it but how do I shake this cloud it has left over me??? I am literally sick knowing what torture this child went through.
I watched this movie last Saturday and it still effects me quite profoundly.

my poor dog…fought a snake & won
My german shorthair was engaging in his favorite pastime…chasing off snakes from the property. He dislikes them and is very very agressive with them. It has me a bit worried, but he keeps the family safe from them AND we had him vaccinated for snake bites.
Well….we get home last night and his face and neck are all swollen. He looks like the godfather or a bulldog instead of a german shorthair. He looks so sad/funny. We have loaded him up with benadryl and this morning the swelling has gone down. We looked for the snake and can only find bits and pieces of it, apparently the actual bite really infuriated the dog so he really got the snake. Usually he just breaks their back and once they are dead he guards it until we dispose of it. If we are home and hear him barking at the snake we have to put him in the house while we take care of the snake, he will not let us close to them and keeps between us and the snake.
He is such a good dog. I could hardly stand him when he was a puppy~too much energy (I swear he was ADD and needed rittalin)! When he turned 3 he mellowed and had been one of the best dogs we have ever owned. I sure hope the swelling goes away soon.

WAHHHHH!
I got an email this morning. I am being laid off from my job. My last day of work is the 26th of this month. The people in charge of the contracts that I work under decided to pull the rug out from under myself and my clients. They won't renew the contract for the next fiscal year. Now I am scrambling again to try to find a job before I lose this one. I have even broke down and ask my daycare provider if they have a position open that I could do. I told them I was willing to get whatever I needed to work there. I have to talk to the director later this afternoon..
I have no idea how pay my bills after this month. The hubby comes home the first week of next month but I remember the fights we had when I wasn't working. I don't want to go through this again. I have a couple of prospects but I won't get my hopes up b/c it is hard finding a job in my field of work. Esp. since I haven't finished my degree yet. I have the experience but no piece of paper saying that I went to school. I have some college.
What do I do now? Other than sit here and cry all day.

Rants and Raves
Raves:
Heroes, if you haven't seen this show its fantastic. I just rented the first two seasons on DVD, I usually worked when the show came on, late bloomer I guess.
Winamp: This is hands down the best media player on the market, it does everything including syncing i-pods.
Amazon Mp3 Downloads: Amazon's music service is MUCH better than Itunes. Amazon's music has no DRM, which is great you control how to handle what you pay for (what a concept)! Amazon also is a better deal in that you get higher quality audio at the same price or cheaper. I've made the switch to Amazon but will keep Itunes for ipod syncing and for exclusive tracks.
Rants:
Dairy Queen: The absolute worst hamburgers, over cooked and bland tasting. Burger King has the worst fries, Yuck!
People, if you're going to chew gum have the common courtesy to remove from your mouth before having a conversation with someone. Deaf people who read lips have an especially hard time with this its a distraction and distorts the way words are formed by the mouth and tounge.
Obama and McCain both nominated lousy running mates. Obama would have wrapped up the election up had he nominated Clinton. McCain should have capitalized on Obama's poor choice by nominating someone voters knew rather than nominating a nobody. McCain could have really pulled ahead of Osama had he made a better choice.
I had posted about IE8, at this point stay away from it. Its buggy and has crashed on me several times, its still in Beta so I'm hoping MS will tidy things up a bit before it becomes RTM.

ok, so it’s been 3 years today and HERE WE GO AGAIN!!!
OOHHHH LORDY!!! I was SO NOT ready but I can't deny it anymore!
David and I have been trying to decide what to do AND where to go, but we just don't know where to go YET til about Sunday. we are going to put all the things we aren't bringing with us in the attic, since that was the only "safe" spot last time. I just hope that we DON'T flood again. I don't mind the hurricanes and bad weather, I just don't want water in my house. and even though this computer ISN'T a laptop, I'M BRINGING IT!! I lost too much last time to make the same mistakes again. so I'll hopefully still be able to keep in touch with ya'll. I'll email you guys my cell # so you can text or call me. I'll let you know my plans as we figure them out.

tropical depression Julio….:)
woo hoo!
I finally got to see that wet stuff fall from the sky last night. We had loud
thunder, some rain (not enough), and a light storn that was awesome!!! It rained
harder North of me so the washes ran and were still running this morning when I
left for work. We are supposed to get more today
. Monsoon season, ahhhh! This is why my family has to
have 4×4's. Once the water starts rising only 4×4 will be able to
make it in/out of my area. Then the mud, oh yea! My jeep will turn to brown
tonight, tomorrow as I go mud boggin back and forth to the mailbox. Woo Hoo! I
can't wait to get off work so I can "play" in the mud and water.
More rain will make it that much better/fun! ![]()

something to ponder…..
There was a blind girl who hated herself because
she was blind. She hated everyone, except her
loving boyfriend. He was always there for her. She
told her boyfriend, 'If I could only see the world, I
will marry you.' One day, someone donated a pair
of eyes to her. When the bandages came off,
she was able to see everything, including her boyfriend.
He asked her, 'Now that you can see the world,
will you marry me?' The girl looked at her boyfriend
and saw that he was blind. The sight of his closed
eyelids shocked her. She hadn't expected that.
The thought of looking at them the rest of her life
led her to refuse to marry him.
Her boyfriend left in tears and days later
wrote a note to her saying: 'Take good care
of your eyes, my dear, for before they were
yours, they were mine.'
This is how the human brain often works
when our status changes. Only a very few
remember what life was like before, and
who was always by their side in
the most painful situations.
